Today we’d like to introduce you to Carey Washington.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has always been a part of who I am. I grew up in Memphis, surrounded by soul, gospel, and the heartbeat of Southern rhythm. I was that little girl in the mirror, singing my heart out with a hairbrush mic, mimicking Beyoncé, dreaming big even when no one was watching. By the time I was seven, we moved to the suburbs, but that Memphis fire never left me. I kept writing, kept singing, even when I didn’t know where it would take me.
My journey really began when I made the decision to take myself seriously—not just as a singer, but as an artist and future mogul. I started sharing my voice online, working with producers, including Memphis’s very own Drumma Boy. That connection was major for me. I’d travel down to Atlanta and we’d lock in—just creating, experimenting, shaping my sound. He saw something in me early on, and that gave me even more reason to keep going.
From there, I kept writing songs that came from my truth, and staying consistent even when things got quiet. Eventually, I caught the attention of NLE Choppa, who saw something in me and signed me.
Now I’m living what I used to daydream about, making music, building my brand, and stepping into the woman and artist I’ve always envisioned. I’m just getting started, but I know where I’m headed—and that’s legacy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—not at all. I’m still figuring out what works for me. There are days when I second-guess myself, when I feel everything at once—excitement, pressure, doubt, purpose. It’s a lot. But I’ve learned that’s part of the process.
What’s really been key for me is learning to trust my intuition. That inner voice—that quiet knowing—it never steers me wrong. The more I’ve leaned into that, the more aligned I feel. I’m not trying to fit into anyone’s box. I’m building something that reflects me, even if I’m still shaping it in real time.
The road may not be smooth, but it’s mine. And that’s where the power is.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer-songwriter, artist, and creative visionary. I specialize in emotional storytelling through music—lyrics that speak, vocals that move, and visuals that captivate. My voice blends strength with vulnerability to create an emotional, authentic connection across any track I’m on.
I’m signed to NLE Choppa, and I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with him on several records. I’ve been featured on tracks like ‘Cold Game,’ ‘Flaws,’ ‘Don’t Walk Away,’ ‘Sinking Slowly,’ and most recently ‘Hard Life,’ which was featured in the film Black Heat. Each record stretched me in a new way—whether it was harmonizing on something vulnerable or bringing that raw emotion to a hook.
I’ve also been involved creatively behind the scenes—content creation, visual direction, and helping bring his vision to life in a way that complements mine. It’s been a powerful learning experience and a major step in building my own lane.
What I’m most proud of is how I’ve carved space without having even released my debut single yet. That speaks volumes about the work I’ve put in, and the respect I’ve earned in rooms people don’t always see.
What sets me apart is my energy—I don’t force anything. I’m building a brand that’s intentional, feminine, minimal, and timeless. My music, my visuals, my presence—it’s all rooted in truth. And when you’re rooted in truth, your light speaks before you even say a word.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was silly, dramatic, and full of personality—you couldn’t miss me if you tried. I was always singing, cracking jokes, turning the house into my own little stage. I’d look at the TV and be like, ‘That’s gonna be me one day,’ with my whole chest. I had a wild imagination and this big energy that couldn’t be contained. I’ve always been drawn to anything creative—music, glam, anything that let me express who I was. Even back then, it wasn’t about seeking validation—I just knew I had something in me that the world needed to feel. It was never a question of if, just when.
