Life & Work with Ladia Yates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ladia Yates.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out as a solo industry dancer, moved to Memphis, started working with kids then formed an actual group L.Y.E ACADEMY which is Ladia Yates Entertainment Academy. I am also the majorette coach at Germantown high school.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road at all. It’s very hard fighting for your spot as a woman in this industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I teach hip-hop, majorette, Jookin! I’m most known for Jookin! What I’m most proud of is being a stepping stone for my kids! Our versatility sets us apart from others.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Winning a butterfly dance contest in California where I won a tv!
