Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Gossett.
Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My makeup journey started like most makeup artist. I worked in makeup retail for about 6 years and then stepped into the freelance world. I’ve now been freelancing for 7 years and love every minute of it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Most definitely there have been some struggles. It’s scary to put yourself out there to build a career as a freelance makeup artist. Not knowing when the next job might come along and knowing how to plan your year. It’s always feast or famine in the makeup industry. So eat all you can as the work comes to you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a freelance makeup artist with my specialty being bridal and commercial fashion. I’m known for my natural glam looks with dazzling eyes and real skin that glows. It’s one of my favorite looks to put on a woman to give them the confidence boost that every woman deserves. What sets me apart is that I treat makeup as a pure luxury experience. Women pay to be pampered and giving them the most luxe experience is my mission when an appointment is booked.
What were you like growing up?
People are often surprised when I tell them about my upbringing. I grew up with the best of both worlds from being in the city during the school year and being in the country for my summers. I grew up learning what it’s like to have a work ethic and how people see you when you have a strong one. My family has always owned small grocery and dry goods businesses and I worked for them well into my 20’s. I’m so glad that working for what I needed or wanted was instilled in me from an early age and I continue to work hard now for my own business.
