Life & Work with 2nd Cup Coffee of Cordova

Today we’d like to introduce you to 2nd Cup Coffee. They and their team shared their story with us below:

2nd Cup Coffee

Derrin Lane has had a passion for coffee since being deployed overseas. From there, his love grew, and he began to take his passion more seriously by perfecting his craft and becoming knowledgeable on all things coffee. From there, he began to share his passion via social media, i.e., 2nd Cup Coffee, where he brought us in with engaging content and education. He likes to say he has Beans and a Dream. He wanted people to try his coffee, so he searched within his circle and found that his sister, Tina Bruce (wife of brother Antonio Bruce), really loved coffee. Tina became the ultimate taste taster and gave critical feedback on what was good and what could be better. Fast forward, a fantastic opportunity presented itself in the form of the Pop Local Contest at Carriage Crossing, where there was a chance for a small business to have a space at Carriage Crossing to launch their business. Then, Derrin asked Tina to partner with him and embark on what would now be a family business. We became 1 of 4 finalists in the food and beverage category. We got to work on marketing and perfecting our craft. Tina became an official barista, and we got to showcase our beverages and delectables. Although we did not win, it showed us that we have what it takes to make this dream a reality and that our products are good! We received so much love and such great feedback! After riding that wave, we decided to venture off to the Agricenter Farmers Market in the Big Red Barn, where we could showcase our one-of-a-kind beverages and delectables. 2nd Cup Coffee is different from your average coffee spot. 2nd Cup Coffee is so good you’ll want a second cup. We would love to mention Britany Lane, wife of Derrin Lane, who is our fantastic baker! She is truly talented, and her famous Caramel Apple coffee cake is one of our signature delectables at 2nd Cup Coffee.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. We are first-time entrepreneurs, and turning your passion into a business is not for the weak. From marketing to pricing to production, it has all been new and scary, exciting and exhilarating.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
We have had so much support coming from all over. However, we would love to shout out a few key people. First, Antonio Bruce, wife of Tina and brother of Derrin, has been immensely supportive! Antonio has been Derrin’s biggest supporter since they were kids! Derrin has always looked up to and admired Antonio. He is a silent partner of 2nd Cup Coffee. You may not see him, but he is always working in the background and is truly appreciated both in and out of the business. As a husband, Tina could not ask for a bigger cheerleader! Thank you! To Verneda and Veronica, mom and sister of Tina, you both have been a couple of our biggest cheerleaders! We cannot thank you enough for your encouragement! Next, Tina would like to thank her girls Candice and LaHenrya for their encouragement and support! Thank you for being the best girl tribe! Then, we would like to thank our baker and CFO, Britany Lane! without her, this would be much harder! Thank you for just simply being the best teammate a team could have! And lastly, to our 2nd Cup Fam, thank you for liking, sharing, and commenting on our IG/TikToks! We truly appreciate the support!
