Today we’d like to introduce you to April Wong
Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for beauty, makeup, and fashion began at a young age. Recognizing this, my mom enrolled me in John Casablancas modeling school, where I learned skills like runway walking, improv, makeup, and acting. After graduating, I signed with their agency when I was just 13 or 14. While I eventually moved on to school activities like soccer, choir, and colorguard, modeling resurfaced later thanks to my brother. He took up photography in high school and used me as his subject. We began sharing our work online, which jump-started his photography career and rekindled my passion for modeling. What started as a fun hobby gradually turned into something I monetized and fell deeply in love with.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t been without its difficulties. I faced significant backlash from family and strangers because I specialized in boudoir shoots. At the time, I was very sensitive to others’ opinions, and their judgments made me insecure. I often questioned myself and worried about how I was perceived. However, I learned to block out the negativity and focus on doing what I love. Over time, I rebuilt my self-confidence, and now I appreciate the challenges because they’ve shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Modeling gave me skills and experiences that shaped my career today. I worked with agencies and freelanced, learning how to network, build connections, and market myself—all of which I’ve carried into my current role in marketing. I studied Integrated Marketing with a Business Minor at Ole Miss while balancing creative gigs and jobs in fine dining, which taught me customer service and discipline. Now, I work in marketing for a tire company, using the lessons I learned from freelancing and modeling to build successful campaigns. Alongside my professional work, I continue to model and promote. I currently do promotional modeling with The Sullivan Agency, music festival promotions with The Collective Festival Management and Sacred Hive Official. Modeling and content creation remains my creative outlet and a way to express myself, keeping me grounded during the ups and downs.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people might find surprising is how much modeling taught me beyond just being in front of the camera. It’s where I first learned the importance of self-love and perseverance. Even though I faced criticism, the experience gave me a deeper understanding of myself and the confidence to pursue what makes me happy. Modeling also helped me discover my passion for marketing and social media, which now form the foundation of my professional career.
