Today we’d like to introduce you to Demarcus Little, Sr.
Hi DeMarcus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started hosting events back in 2019 from the jump of an amazing podcast, “Dear Millennials: The Lit A** Podcast”, that I was blessed to help create and be apart of. The podcast was created by three other colleagues that I knew randomly in the city. The project was a hit streaming on all podcast platforms (Apple, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google, iHeart Radio Stitcher, etc.,). My name on the podcast is “mcLovin”. I had that name since 2008 from an embarrassing incident that happened when I was in high school at Hollis F. Price Early Middle Collège. One day, I had someone say, “Hey, you’re mcLovin from the Podcast? Mane, I love your point of view and you’re hilarious! You ever thought about hosting events?” My first event I evert hosted was a speed dating event that launched the start of something that I never thought I had in me. I was being booked back to back by people who loved my energy. Hosting events for Jack Daniels,K. Michelle, Memphis Zoo, Mempho Festival, Southern Heritage Classic, you name it! Worked with several amazing DJs throughout the city. Some of my favorites are Alpha Whiskey, GeeHoney, LA, & 2-3, Eventually I branched out on my own and created a unique group called NIGHTLIFERS, LLC. A marketing group that assists businesses with attracting more clientele. The business sprouted with the help of my childhood friend & business parterner Bobby Ballentine (BBallentine).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in the entertainment industry, whether it’s podcasting or hosting events, is always a challenge. I was a popular guy in the city. High school is was the man on campus. College I was a frat boy (Kappa Alpha Psi), part of the SGA, athletics, royal court, and so much more. Having all the connections in the world one would assume that the support of whatever I was doing would be there. I was definitely wrong! Some of my biggest supporters were people I never engaged with in my life. Complete strangers to who I was and what I’ve previously accomplished. I felt like I had to start back at ZERO. Cultivating events that tailored to a certain audience, checking the vibes of the crowd, and making sure retention to events were there were hard.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve done a lot! First thing first, I am a full-time father. I love being a dad to my 9yr old son, De’Marcus Little, Jr (DEL). I’ve been in education for 8yrs. Teaching in inner city schools (KIPP Middle, Kirby Middle) and college (Concorde Career College). I dabble in politics working on campaign trails for Mayor Lee Harris, Commissioner Mickell Lowery, and State Rep. London Lamar. But what I’m proudly known for is doing amazing work for my alma mater, LeMoyne-Owen College where I assisted with increasing visibility of the college around the city and outskirts of the state.
Outside of the education realm, I would like to consider myself a “vibe curator”. I’m the life of the party, I’m what “get’s the crowd going”. Music only doesn’t always get the event to it’s peek. My job is to make sure that every individual person has a great time. Going from section to section, crowd to crowd making sure that everyone gets attention, acknowledgment, and a smile on their face.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was a very active child. When I mean active, I mean a troublemaker lol. I was always top of my class while simultaneously being the class clown. Because of my conduct, I never really got recognized for my straight A’s in school. I love to make people laugh because honestly you do not know what people go through when they get home. I loved sports and music. When I was in high school I created a parody music group called “Big Money Ent.”
