Today we’d like to introduce you to Linh Vu.
Hi Linh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Hanoi, Vietnam. I was born into a family where my grandfather worked as a tailor. My grandfather was a reformed artist. My childhood dream was to become a designer. I always knew what I would be like and what I would become when I grew up.
The blood of artists and fashion flows in my veins, it nourishes my passion day by day. However, nothing is easy, on the path that I have come to this day, I have to try every second, every minute. The first is family problems, my father doesn’t want me to follow this path.
The second is environmental obstacles and social prejudices. The third is my health, I was very sick, and I think I will not be able to follow the profession anymore. Fourth is the financial problem. But the charm with the profession has not ended and to this day I am still here, letting the world know that I am a designer, an illustrator, and a creative director.
In my childhood, I lived in the years 1991 – 2000, this was a very beautiful period. I belong to the Millennium generation. Childhood memories give me a lot of creative inspiration. In 2015 I started working at local fashion companies as a fashion marketing communication graphic designer. This time, I work very hard and try very hard for my future.
I study, work, look for new trends as well as watch a lot of movies to learn about the fashion styles and emotions of each period. I collect and collect a lot of materials as a basis for my art products later. This is the best time of my career. In 2017, my life took a turn, I suffered from severe depression, which has been with me for more than 20 years, and now it’s worse than ever. I had Glitch hallucinations.
I started to find it difficult to communicate with others, I found it to be obsessive-compulsive disorder. It was the worst time I’ve ever had. At that time, I had to quit my job because of my health condition. There was no one to take care of me or understand me at that time. Now when I look back on that time, I find myself really strong enough to carry on with my life and passion to this day.
Now I draw every day, it can be therapeutic and also help me release my emotions. My drawing style is also heavily inspired by the Poodle that I am raising. Her name is Misa, she’s very cute. Taking care of the dog makes me happier.
The depression that I have, is very difficult to cure for a while, But I will still try to continue my creative work, I will live with the disease and overcome it with all my might. price. I will always be myself. I hope the story will inspire artists and creators.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My artistic path was not smooth and simple, I had to try a lot. When I was at the art academy, I had a conflict with my teacher. When I go to work, I have conflicts with colleagues and bosses.
I am alone on the path I have chosen. The family is not supportive, has many prejudices, and is looked down upon. Like the whole world was against me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My job is as an Art Director, I have an active graphic design agency on Fiverr. I provide design services and style direction for Star – brands.
Strengths in my services are Artwork Design for Street Fashion and Product Packaging. Besides, I am also a Digital Artist, I draw illustrations and sell them as NFT. In addition, I also have a hobby of making Lo-fi music, I am still learning more to make them better. The thing that makes me most proud of my career is that in 2019, I designed a purple t-shirt with the name Game Over, and it sold over 500,000 units locally.
The second thing that makes me proud is that in 2021 I started to build a freelance design career on the Fiverr platform. I’m different from others in that I can create trends myself instead of having to research trends. I also have a very strong artistic background, both in theory and practice.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice for beginners should have an idea first, and should not be so focused on technical performance that emotion is the deciding factor for product success or failure.
Most important of all is believing in what you are doing. I would wish I was as strong as I am now to be able to defend my point of view and my product.
