Life & Work with Reggie Williams Jr. of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Williams Jr.

Hi Reggie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started tattooing back in 2010 once I moved here from San Diego. I landed my first true apprenticeship under Ian Brown at Skull X Rose in 2014, I believe. He started a second shop, Rook X Raven, which is where I finished my apprenticeship. After my separation from RxR, I’ve been tattooing as a private studio artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think everything in life has its challenges and obstacles. It’s how we deal with them is the true challenge. But one of the biggest struggles I face is not having enough time to focus on the art side. You tend to get wrapped up in the business side of things and it takes away from the time you could be creating.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a full time tattoo artist and painter. When I’m not tattooing, I paint whether it’s canvas or shoes. I specialize in a lot of anime, cartoon, and pop culture art. Mostly know for my anime work. I’m most proud of my line work. Even if it’s a painting lol. It’s kind of what sets me apart as well.

What matters most to you?
That I always move forward no matter how hard life hits me.
