Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Ceno
Hi DJ CeNo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Memphis,TN native. I began my music journey at the age of 12, rapping and making beats for fun along with a few of my classmates. I didn’t begin to take my music career seriously until my freshman year in high school when I started producing and rapping in a group with my brother, GeTiT, and some friends. I continued making music with the group throughout the entirety of high school, resulting in us doing a mini tour and song with Project Pat.
After high school, the group disbanded, but me and GeTiT continued making music and performing. Though my first time djing for a crowd was at a concert on campus during my sophomore year, it was not until my junior year in college that I began pursuing a dj career. After that, I started purchasing equipment and sharpening my skills. Since then, I have djed several events including concerts, parties, cooperate events and weddings. I have djed shows for Cyhi the Prynce, Rockie Fresh, Charron and many more. In addition, I have djed festivals and events in Singapore, Korea, the Philippines and more.
Currently, I co-own an event coordinating company, Hands Up Entertainment, with a fellow dj and friend in which we gained a huge following while in Guam. In addition, I have recently began refocusing on my music career. So far, I have released one mixtape, “F A Hook” (2024), one single, “She Like That” (2024) and have a second single, “In The Clouds”, scheduled to release February 14, 2025.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Both being a dj and artist has had obstacles. Early in my dj career, it was hard balancing having a job and taking gigs. However, when I moved to Guam, I gained the freedom to solely focus on djing and music. On the other hand, the two biggest struggles of being an independent artist is funding and marketing. Having to pay for everything myself can delay some endeavors. In addition, having a smaller budget than artists with bigger platforms means that marketing and promotion isn’t as strong.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist, I wear several hats. I am a rapper, beat maker and dj. I write and produce all my music, including recording. I also handle my marketing and promotion. As far as the event coordinating company, my business partner and I collab on everything. We organize, market and promote all our events. We hire a team to help during the events, including opening djs and a MC. I think that I am most proud of how successful our first big party was. To our own surprise, we had over 800 people in attendance, something that we never imagined was going to happen. Since then, we have been blessed to continue to have parties with big numbers.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t actually believe in luck. I’m a firm believer in God, so I credit all of my blessings to my Lord and Savior.
