Meet Matilda Eddings of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matilda Eddings

Hi Matilda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From a young age, I was always fascinated by the world around me. Growing up in Memphis, I often found myself exploring the city and capturing mental snapshots of the beauty that surrounded me. My love for photography began when I received my first camera as a birthday gift. It was a simple point-and-shoot, but it opened up a whole new world for me.

I started by taking pictures of everything that caught my eye, the vibrant sunsets, the flowers in my garden, and the candid moments of my friends and family.

In college I took a beginner photography class because I received my first DSLR camera and I wanted to learn how to master it. I began to experiment with different techniques and styles. I spent countless hours learning about lighting, composition, and editing, determined to improve my skills.

As I honed my craft, I continued sharing my work on social media, and soon enough, people began to take notice. I received positive feedback and encouragement, which motivated me to pursue photography more seriously. I began taking on small projects, such as family portraits and local events, gradually building my portfolio.

Today, I am proud to call myself a photographer and owner of Tilly’s Photography. I capture the world through my lens and sharing my unique perspective with others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started as a photographer, I was excited but quickly realized how tough the competition was. There were so many talented photographers, and it was easy to feel lost in the crowd. I struggled with mastering my equipment and finding my unique style. Seeing other photographers’ amazing work made me doubt myself.

Despite these challenges, I didn’t give up. I practiced tirelessly, sought feedback, and learned from every mistake. Over time, I improved and began to find my own voice in photography. Now, I continue to grow, embracing both the struggles and the successes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I focus on providing high-quality services for various occasions like engagements, weddings, portraits, maternity, and family. I take pride in capturing unique and beautiful moments through my lens, ensuring that each client receives stunning images they’ll cherish. What sets me apart is my dedication to customer satisfaction and my commitment to creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone I work with.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success as a photographer can be defined by client satisfaction, creative fulfillment, recognition, financial stability, and growth.

When clients are happy and refer you to others, it’s a clear sign of success. Feeling proud of your work and receiving acknowledgment from peers and awards are also important. Being able to support yourself financially through your photography and continuously improving your skills show that you’re succeeding. Ultimately, success is about what makes you feel accomplished and fulfilled.
