Kenitra Wright shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kenitra, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve really been finding joy in rest lately. Just giving myself permission to slow down, recharge, and enjoy quiet moments has been really fulfilling.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I’m Kenitra — your Certified Wedding Planner and the creative heart behind The Wright Event Planner.
My journey began in March 2004, when I coordinated a wedding as a favor for a family member. What some might expect to be stressful turned out to be smooth, joyful, and deeply rewarding. Unbeknownst to me, a few brides-to-be were in the audience that day — and they noticed the attention to detail and professionalism I brought to the celebration.
Word of mouth spread quickly, and soon I was receiving calls from referrals. That one favor grew into a passion, then into a business — and that’s how The Wright Event Planner was born.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of designing and coordinating countless weddings and events, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. My mission is simple: to ensure your event is seamless, memorable, and joyfully Wright.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work is my father. From an early age, he showed me that true success comes from discipline, consistency, and doing everything with integrity. Those lessons shaped not only who I am as a person, but also how I serve my clients. In every wedding I plan, I carry his example with me approaching each detail with excellence, resilience, and heart.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up. I worked with a client who was very difficult to work with, and at one point it felt overwhelming. It actually took a couple of trusted vendors to remind me of my purpose, help me dry my tears, and got me back on track. That experience taught me resilience and the importance of surrounding yourself with a strong, supportive team. It also reminded me why I do what I do — to serve with heart, patience, and excellence.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me. What you see is what you get. Whether we’re meeting in person or chatting over the phone, I’m consistent, authentic, and true to myself and I’ll always be true to you.”
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that I was small but mighty, someone never to be underestimated. That I was loyal, a true friend, a great listener, and always willing to learn from others. I want to be remembered as someone who enjoyed life fully, shared love freely, and never missed the chance to give a hug.
