Check Out Brittany Williams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Williams.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to introduce yourself.
I have always had a creative spirit, an adventurous soul, and an eye for detail. Photography has been a dream of mine for many years. One that I never thought would come true. My journey started not long after becoming a mom. I got my first DSLR camera from Dirt Cheap. It was a SONY that I had no idea how to use, but I was so excited to capture moments of my children’s lives with something other than a cellphone camera. I practiced with the settings and took pictures of everything. I knew nothing about editing, lighting, settings, etc. But I saw that I loved the journey of figuring it out. My first photoshoot was a newborn session for a friend of mine who saw a couple of pictures I took playing around. I was elated!

I sold that camera to get a better camera which is when everything started. I spent some time researching different brands and researching different types of photography. I was in no rush to buy another camera until my son’s All-Star team made it to the World Series. I knew I didn’t want to document such a big moment with cellphone pictures, so I took what little knowledge I had to buy a Canon Rebel T7i. This event would also be the last that my son would play with this team because we were moving to Memphis for my husband to start his new career. The pressure was on. I enjoyed taking the pictures as much as I watched my son play a sport he loves.

To my surprise, the pictures weren’t horrible, and they received numerous compliments. This was when I started to fall in love with sports photography. After the move, I decided to look into how to use my camera. I wanted to enhance my skills with the hope that one day I could make it a career. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with it. Once I learned something new, I would run out to practice. I would take pictures of my kids playing in the house or the yard. My daughter loved to put on her dress-up clothes and have fun mini-sessions. When my son joined a competitive baseball team, I brought my camera to every game. I would then get asked to take pictures of other players. Following the action and capturing plays was so exciting and fun that my camera became a must-have at every game like the camera was just as important as my son bringing his baseball equipment. I began bringing my camera on every adventure my family would go on. My love and confidence grew with every picture. Since then, I have been encouraged by others who have seen my photos to chase my dream. Sports photography is my passion, but any chance to be behind the lens is always a feeling like no other. I love that photography allows time to stand still and provides an opportunity to show the world from another person’s point of view.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
As one can imagine, the road could have been smoother. Some of the struggles faced as a new business owner have been starting a business, doing business paperwork, getting clients, and trying to stand out from the plethora of talented photographers in the area.

Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I have always seen the world a bit differently than most and appreciated its uniqueness of it. I love being in nature. It provides a stillness yet is full of action. It’s beautiful. Photography allows one to share how they view the world. Photography is an art that enables the photographer to be as creative as their heart desires. It also freezes time, allowing a mom to bring a special memory made to live.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to capture the essence of a person or moment and my eye for detail. The biggest stories are told by the smallest of details.

I am most proud of chasing my dream. My husband and I have told our children to pursue their dreams, never give up, and let go of things that don’t feed their souls. By chasing my dream, knowing they are watching, I hope they are encouraged to do the same. Lord knows I was scared to leap, but I had little eyes watching.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
Most don’t know that I have my bachelor’s degree in nursing and have been a registered nurse for 8 years. I have also had the heart to care for and serve others. Photography allows me to be creative, care for others, and serve others. Photography also has better hours that will enable me to be available for my children’s moments.
