Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelz Danielle.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for music, whether it included making it, performing it, or even listening to it. As a child, I always had the dream of going to a conservatory for college and pursuing music full-time. While I was accepted to my dream school, I, unfortunately, did not have enough money to attend it. With that being said, I was devastated. It was not until I learned how to utilize social media that everything came full-circle for me. In my second year of undergrad, I was dealing with my mental health, and decided that the best release for me would be to write about it. With that being said, I started producing songs, doing covers, and posting them to my Instagram. While this journey in growing my page while balancing school, work, and an internship has not been particularly linear, I would not trade it for the world. I have been able to connect with some of my favorite artists, I have made the most supportive friends, and I have come to the realization that I will be creating music for the rest of my life, regardless of streams or engagement. All things considered, I am planning on releasing a self-produced EP pretty soon, titled “Of The Essence.” I am stoked to release more music, share it with the world, while looking forward to my growth as a musician and as a person. Until then, you can find my music on all platforms under the alias “Chelz Danielle” or on my Instagram at @chelzdaniellemusic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the challenges I have dealt with along the way include feeling imposter syndrome, or feeling like less of a musician because I was relying so heavily on streams, likes, and views for validation. Additionally, it has been quite difficult to remain consistent in content creating while balancing music, school, work, and an internship during my last year of undergrad. While I can recognize these obstacles, I also recognize that it will all be worth it in the end, because it is something that I love to do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter, and producer. I have also dabbled in playing guitar, piano, and I have been playing percussion since middle school. I would say that the most success I have had in my music career has been through Instagram. Some things I am extremely proud of include getting reposted by Pickup Music, Willow Smith, and having my post commented on by SALES. It made me extremely happy to show my admiration towards artists that I listen to, and having it be recognized by them. Additionally, I have utilized my platform to connect with and support QBIPOC creatives and upcoming artists, and I have made wonderful friendships with them along the way.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I have come to the realization that I really want to take advantage of performing live once I am able to. I graduate in May of 2022, so I want to start pursuing music full-time and getting over the anxiety that comes with performing in front of an audience. Additionally, I have realized that social media is extremely valuable in giving upcoming musicians the platform to grow.
