Today we’d like to introduce you to Harrison Downing.
Harrison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved to cook but it wasn’t until my early 20s that I started cooking professionally. I travelled around a lot working in different cities until I eventually came back home to Memphis. It wasn’t until I started cooking with Schuyler and Cole that I thought it would be a forever thing. Once we got together the rest is history.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Cooking is always a bumpy road, long days, stressful services, the list goes on and on. But the struggles tend to mold you into who you are as a cook and I think that’s why I love it so much.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think I can answer all of those questions with one word, Sandwiches. I have always loved putting what I have learned in kitchens in between bread. And besides my wife and my beautiful kids, opening hard times deli with my best friends Schuyler and Cole is definitely the one that I’m most proud of. This place is something special and it has a little piece of all of us in it.
