Check Out Jessica Sanders’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Sanders.

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey in the cosmetology industry in 2010 and graduated in 2011. I was fortunate enough to start my career downtown at an Aveda Salon with some of the best ladies and mentors. I believe this is the core foundation of who I am as a stylist/artist. After a change of ownership, it was time for me to move on. Five years and five salons later I found my home, working for myself.

It has been the best decision I’ve ever made! Now located inside the My Salon Suites in Germantown, I have the freedom to make my salon my own. I’ve learned so much over the years and I’ve collected the best of it all to create the perfect atmosphere for myself and my clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not so smooth. Starting off as a young mom of 2, newly divorced, working on commission was hard. Then you had to deal with very greedy salon owners who are not stylists/artists. Trying to find the right fit at a new salon was challenging. Working with a bunch of women is always difficult.

Building a new clientele in a different part of town is challenging. I had to work 2 jobs during most of this time to make it. Starting a new business on your own was so scary too. Thankfully I offer a service that not many do, and my business flourished very quickly.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in lash extensions with over 9 years of experience. I’m one of the first few artists in Memphis in this business. I’ve been certified with the best in the business Lavish Lashes and online training with Borboleta. I also specialize in hair extensions, in all the latest methods, and use some of the best hair in the industry Bellami Hair.

And of course, I do color, haircuts, and waxing.

I absolutely LOVE what I do! I take pride in my work, I take the time with each and every one of my clients. I try to make them feel and look their best! And most importantly connect with everyone I see on some kind of level. This is my passion and I feel my clients feel that.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To stand up for me, and advocate for myself. And that I’m not for everyone, I can’t please every single person and that’s ok!
