Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry NuTall.
Hi Larry, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My passion for writing and directing stage productions started as a Classical Dancer with Ballet Theatre and Memphis Theatre of Ballet. George Latimer and Carlton Johnson, Artistic Directors over 25 years ago. It was amazing to me as a dancer to tell stories with choreographed movements of the body. The dance moved me to write and create my own original stories with dialog creatively. Over time, I’ve written and directed several hit stage productions throughout Memphis and the surrounding areas; LOOKING BACK THE WAY WE WERE – SIGNIFICANT OTHER and then THE RAPTURE – CONVERTED – IN CHURCH ON THE WAY TO HELL – SOUTH SIDE STORY – BLACK MEN MISSING 1&2. My first performance as a dancer debuted at the famous Orpheum Theatre/Memphis. My dream then was to present someday my very own production written, produced, and directed to the stage of the Orpheum Theatre, where it all started for me. My dream is now a reality. Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been easy. I’ve had many doors closed in my face; however, I’ve never excepted a no for an answer to discourage me from doing what I’m passionate about. Many obstacles I faced in the beginning. I would classify Obstacles as Religious Illiteracy and not knowing the effectiveness of my gift of creativity, calling, and purpose. As an ordained Elder, the stage is a platform I believe God has anointed me to utilize to minister, motivate, and be an effective witness.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently employed in the travel industry. I travel the world, and I love it. I’m a former Aeronautical Safety Professional/ In-flight Services at Delta Air Lines, Inc.
What do you think about luck?
Whenever I think of luck, I’m reminded of Grace. Grace, more Grace, and Grace! I’m convinced that God has Graced me to succeed regardless of circumstances and shortcomings to create productions that speak volumes to man’s hearts. His Grace is sufficient. ( 2 Cor 12:9 )
