Check Out Lenora Boyd’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenora Boyd.

Hi Lenora, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all began in 2012 when my heart was led to volunteer to coach a school dance team. My heart wanted more for the girls, I was coaching because of their hard work, motivation, and determination.

They wanted to go further than just in school dance, so I decided we would dance worldwide. I knew that the cost of entering competitive dance competitions would be a hardship for a majority of them. Therefore, I started seeking for sponsors to make their dreams become a reality.

I started this team beginning in 2012, we competed in various competitions stateside. After winning competitions locally, we decided to shoot for the stars and compete worldwide! Since then, we have won over 23 National Championships!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not. A lot of my girls go through a lot and as their coach I want to be sure they are where they need to be mental. Life can be difficult on its own and then when you add other traumas, it can take a toll.

To add, we have had to earn our respect in this dance world! Especially, with being an all-African American dance team! There have been many times when we deserved first place and didn’t receive it. Just to see the hurt and pain can be exhausting!

Therefore, I have to continue to instill greatness into them, and when they hit that floor to give it ALL they got! I teach them more than just dance. I mentor and instill in them that they can achieve anything they strive for in life no matter what they have been through in life or going through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time dance coach. mentor, choreographer, and owner of TigerCubs AllStars Elite!

My specialties are choreography and mentoring. I can’t name just one thing I’m most proud of, so here are a few: The growth of my program from 2012, we went from placing 8th of 9 teams, to winning 23 National Championships.

I’m a 27-year breast cancer survivor and I mentor other women who are currently going through breast cancer. I’ve been mentoring young ladies since I was 25, and now at 57 to see where many of them started and where they are now is a huge accomplishment!

The growth of my dancers on the floor and outside of dance. I have girls that are in college receiving degrees in nursing, physical therapy, etc. I’m proud of the academic piece and my dancers maintaining B plus averages each year, during a demanding dance season.

I’m proud of the resiliency they display each and every day as they navigate through life!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I see us continuing to win National Champions and one of my former dancers taking over, I’m getting older, lol!
