Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco Dane.
Hi Marco, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a music producer, songwriter and artist. I specialize in music production. My interest and curiosity for music and how it’s created began when I was a child. I was allowed to DJ at family gatherings and other functions. My parents bought me a drum machine for Christmas and from there the rest was history. I saved my allowances and purchased more equipment to add to my arsenal. During middle school, I was in the band and I learned to play bass clarinet. After spending a half-semester in the band, I concluded with playing the snare drum and took what I learned back to my studio and applied it to my music production. My intuition has continued to propel me to learn and collaborate in multiple platforms and opportunities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything in life has its own teachable moments, obstacles and challenges. One of the main things that was a struggle was the financial side and resources. When working with other people that may or may not share the same energy as yours can be challenging. I overcame these obstacles by continuing to stay focused on my craft more and more each day. I tuned out the unwanted distractions and focused on all the many possibilities that were at my fingertips.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In high school, I created a rap group – Criminal Mafia. We created albums together that were sold in local car audio shop such as Car Toyz, Mr. Z’s, and Stereo Sound. I also sold cassette tapes during school to make our name more known. After high school, certain members of Criminal Mafia went other directions in life, as I continued to produce music and helped form another rap group – The 13th Chapter. I produced The 13th Chapter 1st studio album titled More Good Than Evil. Upon completing The 13th Chapter 1st studio album I was introduced to Arielle Alexander aka Mz She Did It Again and Wizz Dumb. After the completion of the 1st, we immediately started recording their 2nd studio album Urban Legends.
After that run its course, they pursued solo careers and I continued producing my next project In Zone. After releasing In Zone I began to work with various artists in the city such as Smurf Diggidy, Blackhaven QB, Polo Capriati, Partee, Shamrock, and Lil Wyte. I’ve also built a strong connection with L.A. based rapper Lavell Streets, a member of rap group Pro City. Working with Lavell has spawned other relationships that I’m continuing to foster.
I am most proud and humble for being relevant in the world of so many great musicians.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those who are just starting out in any business here are a few things you should consider; In order to understand the work, you must engage in it. Once you find that creative path use that to propel yourself and you’ll experience less resistance. Never allow your emotions to overrule your thoughts and decisions.
