Check Out Marquita Gipson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Gipson.

Hi Marquita, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Girls that Glitter Inc was birthed as a simple idea to celebrate my 30th birthday. The goal was to have a one-night event called the “Night of Glitter”. This event was to focus on confidence, self-esteem and self-love for girls ages 7-18.

After hosting a successful event, God placed on my heart the vision to continue in the realm of a mentorship programming. Girls That Glitter Inc. is operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We operate as a proud Tennessee non-profit public benefit corporation.

Primarily, we provide mentoring group and 1-on- 1 mentoring for girls ages 7-21 within our programming.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is a smooth ride. LOL. It comes with good and bad days, lessons, mistakes and purpose. We are a small but, mighty organization. Over the years, there has been some things that have went really well and somethings that did not. We are still learning how to pivot and maximize our programming that is fitting and aligns with our mission. Quickly after starting GTG, Covid-19 happened. We had to quickly figure out how to recruit girls, volunteers and sustain impact in a world where the virtual space was also new all while in a pandemic. Since we have migrated into a hybrid program and still learning as we go. One thing is for sure; struggles are made easier when you have a team who is supportive of your mission.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Within GTG, we have two different programming opportunities for our mentors. We have our Gal Pal programming ages 7-17 and 2.0 programming for girls ages 18-21. Our programming is made up of the 5 pillars of Glitter: Empower, Self-Confidence, Leadership and Relationship building, community involvement and mentoring.

We are best known for curating a safe and healthy environment for not only mentees but, the parents our volunteers and leaders. We take pride in elevating impact each and every interaction that we have. We specialize in bringing real live life skills, awareness and experiences to our platform.

At GTG, we are most proud of our ability to network and form relationships and partnerships that allow us to bring community across our programming. We are most proud of seeing the fruits of our girls matriculating from our Gal Pal program into 2.0, Volunteers/Mentors and parents into Board Members. The end goal if for everyone who touches and come into contact with GTG to shine and thrive.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
To partner and connect with us, you do not have to be in the Memphis/Midsouth area. We welcome hybrid participants, volunteers/mentors and speakers to our platform. For more information on partnership or membership please check out our website.
