Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Gilliam.
Hi Paige, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved photography and the memories it captures and I never imagined that I would be capturing those special moments for other families. It all started Christmas 2019, when my husband bought me my first camera – it was kind of a slow start but throughout that year I taught myself the ins and outs of the camera and learned as much as I could online. Once I felt comfortable I reached out to friends and family and started practicing!
A year later, my husband and I moved to Memphis so he could pursue a dream job and I was nervous and felt like I was starting all over because I really didn’t know anyone. After a few months of meeting people and putting myself out there, I made some awesome connections and have been able to slowly build my portfolio.
I still consider myself fairly new to photography but I truly love it and the friendships I’ve created through it. Photography is something that always keeps me learning and meeting new people! I can’t wait to see my growth in the next few years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A major obstacle I faced was moving to a new city and trying to build up my portfolio while not really knowing many people here. It can be very intimidating joining groups online and reaching out to people to see if they’d be interested in getting photos done but it has definitely helped me step out of my comfort zone!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have started a small side photography business – PLG Photography within the last year. I specialize in families, couples, and portraits. I’m most proud of my growth and how far I’ve come with photography since I started in December 2019.
I feel like what sets me apart from others is my easy-going personality and flexibility to work with a client to make sure they’re completely happy with the location and type of pictures they’re looking for.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue to grow my business and learn as much as possible!
