Check Out Shameka “Meka” Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shameka “Meka” Wilson.

Hi Shameka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I just picked up a camera one day and started taking photos. I initially bought the camera for a film class, but instead of capturing videos, I started with photos. I practiced more and more on my work and editing style, and here I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. The main struggle has been trying to keep the bookings coming in and coming up with new content to create, But I’m not one to give up, and I’m going to keep striving for bigger and better goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a freelance photographer and videographer living and working in Memphis. My main interest is capturing portraits and the essence of my subjects. I’m most proud of my work, and how advanced I’ve become over the years. What sets me apart is the style of my work, my vision, and my creative/unique eye.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to just keep at it and practice. Never give up. Keep pushing. You will get to where you want to be eventually.

Pricing:

  • $250/hr for shoots
  • Mini shoots pop up occasionally during the year
