Check Out Vintrell Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vintrell Jones.

Hi Vintrell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a filmmaker at the age of 22. I had reached out to some amazing actors. Bianca Mcmillian, Georgetta Buggs, Nario Seven, Micahel Domingo, and Secara fuller, and many more talented thespians. I’m so grateful for all the actors that believed in me. In 2017 was the year I lost my mother to cancer and I directed my short film break free which is the story of 3 women who are all trying to break free of their traumas and addictions.

The film went on to win an award for social change. I also worked on the Brian Banks movie as an apprentice to the director Tom Shadyac. In 2018 I wrote a film called Toya starring Secara Fuller and Edward Fields. I took a little break and got back at it in 2022. I directed a project called Dr. Dgad which got accepted to indie Memphis.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had an idea for a soap opera called read between the lies.

At first, I had no idea where to start but eventually, my friend Hamid brought an actor’s Facebook page to my attention. All the dominos eventually begin to fall in line. I knew I had a plan and I had to stick with it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in directing films but I also can film and edit.

I am so proud of being a director since I was in the 3rd grade it has been a dream of mine. Being able to live out a dream is everything to me. I love all the aspects of it and being a visual person helps me stay aligned with the actors I work with. When I’m on a set directing time slows down and I’m able to connect with actors.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see it going far especially seeing tv shows are slowly coming to Memphis and providing more work to the local film industry. I a bright future for our city for years to come.
