Community Highlights: Meet Demetria Banks of DSB Ministries and DSB Life Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetria Banks.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always enjoyed helping others move past obstacles preventing them from living their best life (mentally, emotionally and spiritually). When I saw others hurting and feeling hopeless, I would be moved with compassion to offer a word of encouragement. Something inside of me felt compelled to tell them that “Regardless to how it seems, you can make it. There is hope for you. Don’t give up. God has got you.”

I remember as a young woman in my early 20’s, using my gift to encourage others, I would write brief inspirational pieces – “mini-sermons” if you will. The length would range from 1 to 3 pages. I would pass them out to friends, family members, and co-workers. The responses I received were nothing short of amazing and encouraging. Most would say things like, “That really blessed me.” “I really needed to hear that.” “It was so on time.”

Then they would ask “Do you have any more?” Or say to me, “Don’t forget to include me when you write the next one.” I kept many of the inspirational pieces and often smile as I reminisce about those days of writing and the impact they had on others. They were writings from my heart, a way of expressing myself and providing me needed encouragement.

In my quest to empower others, I joined my church’s prison ministry, nursing home ministry, and street-witnessing team. I was also afforded the opportunity to minister one-on-one with hundreds of hurting individuals while working in our church’s telephonic prayer ministry. This was a very interesting and satisfying assignment because it sharpened my gifts to help others in so many ways.

And so today, the passion burns even stronger – to help lift those who can in no otherwise lift themselves up. This passion has led me to write eight popular books, as well as further my education in ministry and Christian counseling. I am a firm believer that if you are going to do anything, then you should be well prepared for it. I pursued a Ph.D. in Clinical Pastoral Counseling, as well as received my certification as a Christian life coach. I am presently taking classes to this day, with the goal in the mine of empowering others to the best of my ability.

I have used my educational background and the gifts God has invested in me to host several community workshops of empowerment, as well as several virtual classes and groups. I have been having a ball – both teaching and learning from others as I teach.

Both of my businesses – the nonprofit, DSB Ministries, Inc., and the DSB Life Solutions, LLC offer books, coaching products, and masterclass programs to empower individuals to live their life to the fullest. After all, God has designed it that way (John 10:10).

Although proud of my many accomplishments, I am most proud to be one of God’s vessels of hope, strength, and inspiration to many.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Doing ministry work and establishing two businesses, has not been a smooth road.

At times, I wondered if I was really doing what God wanted me to do. I questioned the call and at times felt that I missed God’s direction for my life, especially when hurtful trials came, and it seemed as if God was not helping or anywhere to be found.

The thing is, if you’re going to help others, people will relate to you and believe more of what you say if you, yourself, have experienced similar struggles. That is not to say that you cannot help others if you have not experienced what they are going through.

However, I believe you will be more effective and seen as more “authentic” when others know that you can relate and have overcome.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DSB Ministries, Inc. and DSB Life Solutions, LLC?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, when it comes to finding a mentor being led by God worked and is working extremely well for me. I could always tell when God was pairing me with a great mentor.

He would put me in the right place at the right time to meet them, and the connection would be smooth, nothing forced. About my mentors, I often remarked that the information I learned from my studies could not compare to the wisdom my mentors imparted to me.

In addition, I believe that having the right people in your circle can also play an important part in helping you find a mentor. Through my circle, I was able to connect with a couple of successful women entrepreneurs which has helped shape both my business and ministry.
