Community Highlights: Meet Floyd Morton III of BrokenVinyls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Floyd Morton III.

Hi Floyd, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into the creative world started at a young age. As a child, I discovered a love for performing through school plays and chorus in elementary school, experiences that sparked dreams of one day working in entertainment and media. At 15 years old, I took my first steps behind the scenes by joining the media team at Greater Community Temple Church, where I developed a passion for storytelling through video and production.

By 17, I expanded into modeling after earning an internship with Walk the Runway, giving me my first experience in front of the camera in a professional setting. After graduating high school, I began pursuing photography while continuing my media work at church, further building the creative skills that would shape my career.

My educational journey led me to earn an Associate of Science in Information Systems from community college before transferring to the University of Memphis, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Film. While attending the University of Memphis, I joined Donna Groff Agency to continue developing my acting career and connected with talented creatives who remain collaborators and friends today.

Since graduating, I’ve continued building a diverse career across multiple areas of the entertainment industry. I’ve appeared on the television series For My Man, worked as a background actor in a Whataburger commercial, and stepped behind the camera to write and direct my own films, Relatives and Natalie & Jean, with Natalie & Jean currently being submitted to film festivals. Alongside filmmaking and acting, I’ve built a photography portfolio that includes album covers, events, commercial work, and a variety of other creative projects.

What began as a childhood love for performing has grown into a career that spans acting, directing, photography, and media production. Each step—from church media and modeling to filmmaking and professional acting—has helped shape my passion for telling meaningful stories and creating visual experiences that connect with people.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges in my journey has been financial stability. While pursuing my education and creative career, there were times when resources were limited and opportunities required sacrifices. At one point, I experienced periods of couch surfing while working to stay focused on my goals. Those struggles taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of continuing forward even when circumstances are difficult. Today, those experiences serve as motivation and remind me how far I’ve come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Broken Vinyls is a creative production company dedicated to crafting authentic, cinematic stories across film, documentary, commercial, and music video production. We believe the most powerful stories aren’t perfect—they’re human. By combining artistic vision with professional execution, we create work that audiences remember long after the screen goes dark. We’re even getting into distributing creatives films on our YouTube channel and other social media soon. By us doing this, it sets us apart from regular film studios. We pour our resources into creatives and showcase their work through, social media, podcasts/interviews, etc. We’re even setting up events that creatives and come film short films for free and it be posted under the production studio socials. These goals I made for the brand has made me so proud. I would love everyone to know whether you’re season or a newbie BrokenVinyls and Floyd Morton III is here to provide guidance and resources to showcase creatives work!
