Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiamesha Wilson.
Hi Kiamesha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for ice cream and entrepreneurship started at a very young age.
I come from a family of entrepreneurs and always wanted to be a business owner. I tried a few other small businesses before Kaye’s Pints & Scoops, but this one has been the most rewarding. When I was younger, my family’s Sunday evening tradition was to go for ice cream, and even to this day if my family is together on a Sunday evening there is more than likely ice cream.
My love for ice cream has blossomed into a small business, and I am excited about bringing something so sweet to this city.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a journey. We did a lot of planning and research before launching, but as we know things never go exactly as planned. It took us two years to bring this business to life.
We went to ice cream school, visited dairy farms, and tested some products. Renovations of our space were a major undertaking, and due to labor and material shortages, it took a bit longer than expected. The pandemic was also a major factor for us, we waited more than six months for freezer production, and the equipment prices increased 30% from the beginning of the project to the end.
Though, it hasn’t been a smooth road this journey has taught me to be nimble and celebrate the small ones. I have learned that it’s important to take it all in stride and keep going even when things are challenging.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kaye’s Pints & Scoops. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Kaye’s Pints & Scoops is a micro creamery in Memphis, TN, offering small-batch hand-crafted premium ice cream. We offer a variety of flavors like southern Butter Pecan and fresh Strawberry to futuristic flavors like Honey Lavender and Tiger Tracks.
We use natural ingredients and local flavor makers. You won’t find artificial flavors or colors in our ice cream. We make our ice cream right here in Memphis in the Whitehaven community. We believe in supporting local, buying local, and employing locally.
Kaye’s Pints & Scoops ice cream can be found in several local markets, on restaurant menus, and at events around the city. We are working to meet our ice cream lovers where they are. Kaye’s Pints & Scoops is creamy, flavorful, delicious, and made with soul.
What matters most to you?
The most important things in my life are family, faith, and growth. My family is my support system I have no idea where I would be without their support of them.
I always stand strong on my faith and let that be my guiding light. Growth is important because it shows progress, I stay curious and always look to learn from every situation.
