Lateedra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began doing lashes (strips & individuals) as a hobby or whenever I or my best friend wanted to look pretty. I never thought I would be doing them as a career. My cousin always put the ideas in the back of my mind that I should pick up lashes as a side hustle. Eventually, I did just that. In 2019, I took classes and started out offering the services in my home. I stayed consistent and practiced day & night. I started off offering the services for free or for a little of nothing, just to get the experience & practice that I needed.
Starting out was hard, frustrating & sometimes unpromising because it was so hard to gain clientele. I thought I’ll never get better. Eventually, I decided to go back to school to become licensed in Aesthetics. I completed & graduated from Aesthetician school in 2020. I opened my very first location here in Memphis as well. As of now, I offer more than lashes as a service. I offer skin care ( facials, peels, vajacials) & face & body waxing! One of my clients’ favorite services that I offer is the “Pretty Kitty Package”. This particular package includes a full Brazilian wax with our custom Deluxe Vajacial. I decided to offer Vajacials because many people suffer from ingrown hairs, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, etc., in that area, & I decided that I would be one of the ones to help combat the issue!
I also now make my very own exfoliating body scrub & body oil that help keep your skin smooth, glowing & ingrown-free! My scrub helps remove ingrown hairs & dead skin all while smoothing & moisturizing the skin! My oil is the finishing touch! It’s great for dry skin, eczema, acne-prone skin & so much more! All the ingredients used in my products are great for any skin type! God has truly blessed me & I am so glad that I kept the faith, kept pushing, kept praying, & kept striving to be the best licensed professional that I am today!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been an easy and smooth task. I started off offering services in my home, sometimes for free or for a little of nothing. Gaining clientele was extremely hard & frustrating. Maintaining social media platforms and promoting sometimes gets overwhelming.
The support I thought I would get, I definitely didn’t get. Sometimes, I got so overwhelmed because no one would share, or like my posts. It left me wondering how am I going to get the word out if no one shares or likes my posts? After getting my own suite, sometimes it got hard financially.
The clientele was slow, products need to be purchased, rent needed to be paid, and let’s not forget I was in school as well, so school payments needed to be paid as well. Prayers, faith & determination kept me going. And my praying mother with her encouragement also kept me going

Unique Lashes Studio & Spa basically tells you what I offer and what I do all in the business name. I am a licensed Aesthetician who specializes in skincare & beauty. I offer lash extensions, facials, peels, face & body waxing, Vajacials, brow tint.
I created Unique Lashes Studio & Spa with beauty being my top priority. Everyone loves to look & feel beautiful. All of my services are done with patience & love. I take my time in every service that I offer because I know once the appointment is over, the end goal for me is to hear every client say “Oh my God!” “I love my lashes!” “I feel refreshed!” “I feel like a new woman!”
