Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Champagne.
Hi Lindsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We had been casually breeding and selling goats since 2010 as a side farm hobby. In January 2021 we had a boom in baby goats born with 28 babies in a 10-day period of time. Over that weekend, we invited some friends and family over to help handle and socialize the baby goats. They enjoyed it so much that they went home and told their family and friends. It was like a snowball effect. Everyone who heard about us wanted to snuggle a baby goat.
So we started a small business of baby goat snuggles, which then lead to the question “will y’all do goat yoga?”. After trying our first session of goat yoga, I was hooked. It was a great experience and the participants loves it also. We started training our goats to actively participate. They already knew who to mingle with and be loving (from being snuggled so much) but now we needed them to jump up and pose for pictures and have fun doing it! So we started using Cheerios as a training treat and we had great success.
We also started doing parties and traveling for events. Participating in local church events, college events, traveling to retirement homes and healthcare facilities (they really needed this after covid!)
We’ve been blessed to stay busy and be active with the community. Continuing to book goat yoga, baby goat snuggles, and parties.
In the future, we hope to continue this venture and also expand into being a local goat cheese provider.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Livestock raising has its challenges, especially raising goats. They are escape experts and shenanigan pros.
Growing a business with goats is rewarding and challenging. It’s a 24, 7 career, with little time for a vacation.
We work hard to maintain a healthy herd along with a breeding program that provides baby goats year-round.
Maintaining a productive healthy herd has been our largest challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We offer baby goat snuggles year-round, this allows our little goats to become socialized and loving.
We also offer goat yoga to the Memphis area, our friendly and socialized goats are trained to actively participate in the yoga flow and enjoy doing it.
Our goats love to help host birthday parties, and many other events. Animals are extremely therapeutic for people and goats have a way of making many people smile.
