Community Highlights: Meet Mackenzie Kemmer of Sunday Soul Vintage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Kemmer.

Hi Mackenzie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Mackenzie Kemmer, Memphis native, and vintage enthusiast. In 2019, I launched my secondhand home interiors shop (Sunday Soul Vintage Co.) in an effort to bridge the gap between sustainability and accessibility.

My goal was to create a unique, curated shopping experience for the modern, and eco-conscious consumer. What began as a passion project eventually became my full-time job, and the values that started this shop two years ago continue to guide it today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish! Long, jarring, jagged, or bumpy feel like more accurate descriptions. My psychology degree prepared me for many things, but owning a small business in the middle of a global pandemic was not one of them.

My husband jokes that trial and error is my favorite way to learn, but it’s true! The successes I have been prefaced by at least two missteps. I have had to learn the hard way to trust in both myself and the process I built to know that a win will eventually happen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sunday Soul Vintage Co.?
Sunday Soul Vintage is an online and in-person vintage store that specializes in curated home decor and furniture. We are known for all things wicker, rattan, and secondhand. If your grandma had it in her house in the 1970s, there is a good chance we would love it.

Our most sought-after pieces include peacock chairs, wicker shelves, and brass etageres. In addition to our shopping experiences, we are proud to offer wedding/party rentals, personal shopping, and home staging services!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Before I took Sunday soul full-time, I was a women’s trauma specialist for three years!
