Community Highlights: Meet Sidney P. Malone of New Growth In Christ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sidney P. Malone.

Hi Sidney P., so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in South Memphis as the youngest son of the Malone household. I played several instruments, but landed on the piano and organ. My musical talents allowed me to accompany many different artist and major preachers in America. After receiving my bachelors degree from the University Of Memphis, I started New Growth In Christ in 1990. Upon completion of my Master’s degree, my consulting company, Malone Consulting, started in 1992 and I have been blessed to help leaders across the globe.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has most definitely been a road of growth and evolution! Due to several challenges in my personal life, I was able to navigate emotional distress and financial ruin. Not that I desire to do it again, however, every challenge created a learning opportunity for me to not only improve individually, but also to posture myself to help others through transparency, honesty, and experience. Throughout every trial, I have learned to value authentic relationships and people who will “stick and stay” regardless of personal difficulties. Overall, I’ve had more good days than bad!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
New Growth In Christ was established based upon a promise, but it was made in protest! I never saw myself pastoring a church due to my many experiences as a musician. However, I felt the divine impression to be different. Therefore, I gave up my dreams of being an investment banker, and obeyed the call to pastor a church that was built on authenticity, leadership, the simplicity of the Word, and practical application. Our ministry has successfully accomplished these goals over the past 36 years! From the rehearsal room of the gospel choir at Memphis State, to a 13 1/2 acre campus in East Memphis! I am fortunate to not only thrive in the area of ministry, but musically I am still heavily involved in creating sounds that assist in our everyday journeys. My consulting expertise is primarily focused on helping leaders lead. In 1992, I established a ministry school to help train the next leaders in Christian theology and Kingdom living.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness for me is having a beautiful wife, Leslie Malone, beautiful children, and authentic friendships! Happiness is being able to enjoy quiet moments along with public successes. My motivation emotionally is to count all of my blessings and to focus on the simplicity and wholeness found in having peace. Also, happiness is equated to enjoying the testimonies of many individuals whose lives have been impacted by my presence in a positive and life-changing way. Oh, and a good round of golf is also included in this formula!
