Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Brick Creasy.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. I’ve always had a strong foundation in traditional art, so working with color, texture, and blending felt very natural to me. After college, I worked for a major makeup line, later attended hair school, and eventually managed a salon.
From the outside, it looked like I was climbing steadily in the industry. But over time, I realized what I loved most wasn’t just the artistry — it was the connection. I wanted to help women feel confident in their own skin, not just styled for a day. That realization led me to start over in esthetics.
Starting over was humbling. I went back to school, rebuilt my clientele, and poured myself into advanced education. I became deeply invested in corrective skincare and long-term skin health. That’s how Girlmakesface was born — a boutique studio built around customization, education, and real relationships.
Today, I serve clients throughout Germantown and the greater Memphis area with treatments like microneedling, chemical peels, customized facials, and curated homecare plans. I focus heavily on transparency and long-term strategy rather than quick fixes. My goal is for clients to understand their skin, not just receive a service.
Being a solo business owner has required me to wear every hat — provider, educator, marketer, bookkeeper — and that journey has grown me just as much as it has grown my business. I’m proud to be part of the Memphis small business community and to build something deeply personal and relationship-driven right here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road — and I think that’s true for most small business owners who are building something meaningful.
Transitioning into esthetics after already working in makeup and hair required me to start over in many ways. While I had industry experience, I still had to rebuild a client base, invest in advanced education, and commit financially to equipment and products before I saw steady returns. There were seasons that required patience and a strong belief in the long-term vision for my business.
As a solo provider, every aspect of the business rests on my shoulders — from client care to marketing to operations. That responsibility has stretched me and shaped me. I’ve learned how to navigate slower seasons, make thoughtful business decisions, implement clear policies, and grow in confidence when it comes to pricing and boundaries.
There have absolutely been moments of self-doubt and recalibration. But those moments taught me resilience and clarity. They pushed me to refine my approach, strengthen my voice as a business owner, and build a business that is sustainable rather than reactive.
Looking back, I’m grateful the road wasn’t perfectly smooth. The challenges forced growth, and that growth is reflected in the level of care, professionalism, and intentionality I bring to my clients and to the Memphis/Germantown community every day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Girlmakesface is a boutique esthetics studio based in Germantown, serving clients throughout the greater Memphis area. I specialize in customized, corrective skincare focused on long-term skin health and visible, sustainable results.
My treatment approach blends advanced corrective services — such as microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning, and customized facials — with a strong influence from Korean skincare philosophy. I’ve been particularly drawn to Korean skin treatments because of their emphasis on barrier health, hydration, prevention, and layered, strategic care rather than aggressive overcorrection.
By combining results-driven corrective treatments with the skin-first principles found in Korean skincare, I’m able to create plans that strengthen the skin while improving tone, texture, acne, pigmentation, and overall clarity. The goal isn’t just short-term improvement — it’s long-term skin resilience.
Because I operate as a solo provider, every client experience is intentionally designed and personally delivered. Clients aren’t passed between providers — they build a consistent relationship with me. That continuity allows for a deeper understanding of their skin’s history and more precise treatment planning over time.
I’m also deeply committed to education. I believe clients should understand why we’re choosing certain treatments or ingredients. Empowered clients make confident decisions, and that transparency builds trust.
What sets Girlmakesface apart is the balance between artistry, science, and integrity. I don’t chase trends or overpromise results. I focus on sustainable skin health, honest communication, and highly personalized care. I’m proud of the reputation I’ve built in the Memphis community as someone who is thorough, thoughtful, and deeply invested in her clients’ long-term outcomes.
What I want readers to know is that skincare doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With the right guidance and consistency, healthy, radiant skin is achievable — and it’s a journey worth investing in.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I don’t consider myself reckless, but I do believe growth requires calculated risk.
One of the biggest risks I took was starting over in esthetics after already building momentum in other areas of the beauty industry. From the outside, it may have looked like a lateral move, but internally it meant reinvesting in education, equipment, and rebuilding a clientele from scratch. There were financial and emotional risks attached to that decision, but I knew I wanted to build something that aligned more deeply with my long-term vision.
Another risk has been choosing to operate as a solo, boutique-style studio rather than joining a larger practice or med spa. That decision comes with full responsibility — financially and operationally — but it also allows me to maintain control over the client experience, the treatments I offer, and the integrity of my brand.
I’ve also taken risks by investing in advanced technologies and specialized skincare lines, including incorporating Korean skin treatments into my approach before they were widely recognized in this area. Staying ahead of the curve sometimes requires trusting your professional intuition before the market fully catches up.
My perspective on risk has evolved over time. I don’t take risks impulsively. I research, plan, and weigh the long-term sustainability of a decision. But I’ve learned that avoiding risk entirely often leads to stagnation. Thoughtful risk, grounded in preparation and purpose, is what allows a business to evolve.
Looking back, the risks that felt uncomfortable at the time are the ones that shaped my business the most. They stretched me, refined my decision-making, and ultimately strengthened both my brand and my confidence as an entrepreneur.
