Hi Tamera, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Junk Treats started as a personal project when I decided to make treats for my own birthday. As I looked at the options available, I realized I could create them myself, and that sparked both a passion and a learning experience. I’ve always enjoyed DIY projects, especially when they allow me to be creative and explore new skills. After sharing the treats with my family and receiving positive feedback, I saw the potential to turn it into a business, especially since I was already familiar with entrepreneurship through lessons from my aunt and brother. My aunt placed the first order for her spa clients, and from there, I began building the brand, creating business cards, setting up my social media accounts, and growing step by step. I’m grateful for the ongoing support from family and friends, and I believe there’s always room for growth as I continue to develop and improve the business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve encountered as a small business owner has been building a consistent client base while navigating the trial and error of finding the right product combinations to ensure the best quality for my sweet treats. Marketing, especially staying consistent on social media while also creating new and unique products to appeal to a wide audience, has also been a learning curve. Balancing these demands while working two jobs has definitely been challenging, but my passion for my business keeps me motivated, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Junk treats . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Junk treats is a small business that specializes in chocolate covered strawberries. Right now we’re testing candy grapes and cookies that will be available soon. What sets Junk Treats apart from every other treats business is the personal touch and attention to detail that goes into every order. I don’t just create chocolate-covered strawberries and sweet treats, I craft experiences. I am proud of my dedication to my brand. I focus on presentation just as much as taste, making sure every order leaves a lasting impression.
As far as what I offer, I sell tasty delicious treats that are made with love and a taste so good it’s like music to your mouth. I also offer services for small and big events such as birthdays, weddings, family get togethers, and so much more!
What are your plans for the future?
My future plans involve continuing to grow my business while deepening my understanding of which products complement each other and appeal to a variety of tastes. I aim to market my brand more creatively and expand visibility through participation in more popup shops, allowing potential customers to connect with Junk Treats beyond just purchasing products. A key goal is to eventually open a storefront location. Additionally, I’m focused on developing myself further as a baker, exploring whether I can take on multiple challenges at once with a positive mindset or if a more gradual approach is best.
