Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Lindsey.
Hi Teresa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in retail at the age of 16 originally it was something to help take care of my daughter. I was a teenage mother in high school and was trying to help myself and my baby.
I worked for really amazing individuals who taught me the art of selling, and there was always a passion for styling clothes. I use to read teen Vogue magazine and would study how to bring an outfit to life. From there, I became a leader in the business and always saw myself owning something for myself.
One day, I had finally saved enough to start my own small business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a lot of work. When you are working for a company you’re filling a position but owning your own business you are every woman so to speak.
My biggest challenge has been my customers want a storefront and with being in school in the middle of my program for Radiology, I’m not physically able to take the next steps. Since I am a small business and my time is limited right now it’s just me doing pop-up shops to give my clients a chance to come to see the items in person.
It’s the season I’m in for now and with Covid, I am just not forcing anything more than what my schedule will allow out of an abundance of caution with the school.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think there are three things that set me apart from others with my brand. The first thing is the why I started my brand, it was because of the perception of what sex is vs what it is to me.
My brand is Comfy, Sexy, Chic, Women should feel comfortable in what they look good in, sexy is an effortless style so don’t ever overthink your wardrobe, Chic is feeling free without being restricted to tight clothes. Secondly, I have over eighteen years of successful experience in wardrobing and driving sales. I have worked for great leaders in the retail world and have mastered the ins & outs of trade secrets.
Lastly, I care about my clients and how they feel and want to listen to their needs if I don’t have it, a good recommendation goes a long way, it shows you’re not just out for a sale. I want to provide quality at an affordable price.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take your time, learn your marketing and who your clients are, learn ways to improve you’re for your overall experience, and stand behind your brand, nothing happens overnight, so do not be afraid of hard work because if you don’t want to work hard for yourself then you will work hard for someone else.
Don’t worry about the people that are looking and not supporting they just want to learn how you did it this far.
