Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Eddins.
Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started out at 21 as a CNA in nursing homes just trying to pay bills and make a way.
While working in the nursing homes I grew bonds with my residents and would often find myself upset and heartbroken by the care that they were receiving. I lost quite a few jobs from speaking up regarding residents’ health and unfair treatment.
I even had the Executive director at one of the faculties tell me “you’ll never make it as a CNA with your sympathy for someone who could die tomorrow. “I went home and question everything! My husband, who I was dating at the time, told me to just apply to another facility.
After working in a few facilities, I quickly realized that it wasn’t just one facility. It wasn’t just one resident, so I decided to continue my education. Once I graduated with my degree in Health Care Management I started applying for jobs with higher titles and more power.
I thought that a higher position meant that I’d be able to make a change, but there’s always someone with an even higher role that makes change feel almost impossible. The only way to truly make a change within a facility is to start from the ground up.
In 2019, I knew that It was time to start my own company. I was terrified. I couldn’t see myself quitting my job. I then had two children and was pregnant. My husband encouraged me to quit and go after my dream. Before I knew it that fear of failing turned into the motivation to keep going.
After securing the licensing for an agency, I started passing out flyers and doing community service events. Beside me, every step of the way was my husband. I later asked him to join me as my co-owner.
Here we are today with EDDINS THING ENTERPRISES LLC.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely did not start off smoothly at all!
I started out with just my husband and me working with our clients. Imagine going to a client at 7 am-12 pm and then another from 12:30 pm-10 pm Monday-Friday plus weekends with three children! Not to mention, the agency started to pick up literally a month before the pandemic.
We’ve encountered staffing issues, quarantining, and pretty much everything you’re warned about when starting a business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Eddins Thing is a home care agency built to service senior citizens. Our agency hires skilled professionals to assist seniors with their daily tasks such as bathing assistance, dressing assistance, meal prep, and even errands.
We specialize in dementia and Alzheimer’s patients. With Eddins Thing, seniors don’t have to worry about someone showing up. We treat our clients like family. If a staff member can’t make it, our office staff including myself will.
I am most proud of our reviews. So far Eddins Things has yet to have a bad review, fingers crossed.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I had one younger brother, Josh. With it being just the two of us, he was my responsibility. With my mom working to provide I had to cook for us and made sure Josh completed homework.
If I left the house I had to take josh with me. We were inseparable. In 2005, my aunt died leaving behind 4 children. My mom and grandmother split the kids between the two of them. Although my cousin James was older than I was still responsible for us all.
Aside from family, I was always that friend that took lead because I wanted to be able to help others succeed. I would join clubs and then run to be president of those clubs just to be able to organize the fundraisers and be able to help each group solve problems.
