Community Highlights: Meet Yona Lewis of Emerald Beauty Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yona Lewis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Actually, it all started back in 2019 after college, I felt like my chosen career path just wasn’t enough.

I’ve always known I was different. One day, I went to get my nails done and I was offered an opportunity at a nail shop that promised to help me prepare to be a nail tech (must I remind you I never thought of being a nail tech whatsoever).

First, I learned by just simply placing lacquer & doing pedicures (shortly followed my license). As I worked, my knowledge in the beauty industry grew curiously when I was working in an Orthotic & Prosthetics office seeing most people needed reconstruction physically I would see people covering their physical being just because they were unhappy.

Which pushed me into becoming a medical nail tech changing the visual thought into reality but, once Covid-19 hit (2020), I wanted to figure out a way to expand aesthetically. So, I went for Lash extensions. Currently, Just came from learning Ombre brows in Miami, It was new and ran away with my interest and I felt the humor of God leading the way because once again I never thought of being anything that I am today.

I saw myself as a city/country girl who graduated in the medical field and being just that for a living. Thanks to my family as my support system. For me, it was the principle of learning something so therapeutic and life-changing for others to just simply look beautiful to their full potential. It was like everything I manifested through yoga and meditation is becoming unfolded.

Most people know me from WNBJ, Lane College event sponsor attendee, TrapxArt, and soon-to-be yoga instructor as well. 2 years ago, I decided to plan on opening an actual business of my own servicing the community changing lives through my work and future products (dropping soon). My ultimate goal in my career field is to help other people to learn the same talent as me whether it’s Yoga or in the beauty industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a “smooth” road, especially with Covid. I can honestly say a blessed one though broken promises were made when I first began.

What I thought was a golden opportunity at first wasn’t so valid (it was manipulating) so I had to take time to find my own way and I was personally fine with that simply because I’ve learned “nobody can take anything from me that I worked hard for”.

What I’ve faced along the journey of becoming myself was nothing less than a blessing. Every day I realize just like any other small business I will continue to evolve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
