Conversations with Amirah King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amirah King.

Hi Amirah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since freshman year in high school, I knew I was supposed to have my own business. As I child I grew up playing basketball, had a strong love for technology, history, music, and creating ideas I saw in my mind. Throughout high school and time in college, I explored web design, graphic design, creative & journalistic photography.

Currently, I am combining all of those things that make me happy into my business as an overall creative, via photography & videography services for individuals & businesses all over the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road, as I explored different areas to find out what I liked and didn’t care to further pursue professionally. Personal life experiences definitely influenced and impacted my mental health at times, but I’ve been fortunate to have support along the way to assist in continuing this journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a creative, I’ve used different mediums to communicate different messages and express myself based on life circumstances occurring. So while I specialize in photography, I am currently transitioning into more video work and film making, to be able to tell stories more thoroughly in comparison to still images. (Weddings, Musician, Athlete & Business Profiles, etc).

When I was still working a 9-5, I didn’t have the time to photograph as much as I liked, so instead I went back to creating graphics and designs, which turned into my art-inspired sportswear brand, New Age Elements. I’m known for my cool, calm demeanor, optimistic vibes, insight, and my hats? I think lol.

I am most proud of how I am able to use all of what makes me, me, to positively impact others’ lives for the better. I want people that I know and work with to be comfortable being themselves around and with me, whatever that looks like. It makes for a beautiful experience for us all.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my industry continuing to grow pretty rapidly. We are visual creatures with loads of information to share and life stories to tell… that won’t ever change. It will all be caught on camera, you just have to find which visuals you want to tune into.
