Today we’d like to introduce you to Artra Johnson
Hi Artra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Graduate from the former Bishop Byrne Catholic Highschool Memphis,TN. Went on to become an alumni from Tennessee State University in Nashville,TN in class of 2009. From there Artra Johnson also known as “Ms.Rax “ went on to pursue her dreams in music by becoming a BMI published independent recording artist and songwriter (has long catalog) from 2010 up until today . Along with her degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice . Artra Johnson continued her education by graduating from Strayer University with a Masters degree in Education in 2016. Artra Johnson went after both dreams in music and her dreams in corporate America. Artra Johnson has been a licensed teacher in Georgia , and a certified junior varsity volleyball coach all while still pursuing dreams as an independent artist and songwriter which is almost un heard of ! Artra Johnson never gave up of her dreams of being someone Memphis Tennessee could be proud to call their own even through trials and tribulations. Artra Johnson still remained steadfast throughout her journey by faith which was learned at an early age with the help of strong parents Gloria &Arthur Johnson, prayer warriors , and church home Morning View Baptist Church (1626 Carnegie st. Memphis,TN 38106). With a strong support system gave her the dedication and motivation to continue on throughout her journey of success!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road if anything this road is still very rocky because success is not a straight line and everyone’s route is different. I believe being from Memphis is a challenge in itself and it’s been said that you have to have a thicker skin being from this city. But I lived all around the world and represent Memphis in every room.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am in child welfare in my professional career, I’ve been a certified teacher and a certified volleyball coach. As a creative I am a rapper, singer, songwriter, director and CEO of Woman of Substance Entertainment. My Entertainment Company offers a multitude of services like songwriting, performances, hostings, and one on one consultations.
I am the most proud of my coaching experience! It really changed me as a person. And during that time when the opportunity arrived I was grieving and it challenged me to take myself out the center and refocus my attention on the needs of my students and my team which needed me present! When my team found out I was “Ms.Rax “ its was chaotic lol
I believe what sets me apart from others is my strength and ability to be an alchemist! Anything sent to break me I used for benefit and all my pain I turned into purpose!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone up and coming wanting to be successful first get permission from whoever your high power is. You are definitely going to need a source outside of yourself. You’re definitely going to have to have a strong support system. You are definitely going to need a plan and don’t go by a timeline. Everyone’s life and journey is different so just because one person takes an alternate route to get to the same destination doesn’t mean your journey will be the same. Trust in yourself and be okay with being alone .
