Conversations with Ashlyn Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During high school, I was shrouded in darkness, and my plan was to join the U.S. Air Force. I am very grateful and thankful for connecting with someone special who helped me gain the courage to actually follow my passions and a life path that would fulfill me.

Modeling has always been my calling, and my first year of college is when I began to further pursue it. I also majored in International Business during my first year, and I am extremely happy that I changed my major to Fashion Design. Once this happened, my entire college experience lit up for me. As time progressed, the path that I had chosen began to make sense, the pieces we’re adding up, and it was clear to me that I was achieving my goals.

In short, I am where I am today through faith, focus, diligence, and gratitude. The path is not easy, and it’s important to remember that it’s not meant to be when you have big things to create and achieve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle along the way has been me. I’ve had to learn myself, get over myself, allow myself to be taught, and remember to apply those teachings in order to be successful.

The truth is that life has been good and easy for me, and I am abundantly blessed. I’ve just had to get out of my own way and stop making things more difficult or complicated than they actually are. Self-love and forgiveness were major challenges for me, but I knew that I deserved to give that to myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Modeling is my passion, and fashion design is my craft. I am a student and young woman who is learning and growing so much every day.

I am very proud of the work that I’ve completed so far this year, and I’ve been experiencing a lot of things for the first time. Such as my first fashion business internship, runway modeling opportunity, modeling cover, freestyle draped design, illustrated mini-collection, and wearable art design which went down the runway. Recently, I’ve also officially launched my fashion brand, Lyn Davis Designs.

In my life and in my work, I am only being true to myself. In modeling, fashion, and art, it’s important to be yourself because that is when you are being the most unique, and that is valuable.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I do not have a strong opinion of this city, and there isn’t anything that I seriously dislike. I was born here, Memphis has been good to me, and I am grateful and thankful for that. I am not in a rush to leave, and I also know that I’ll be happy when that time comes.

I know that there is so much to explore and enjoy in this city, and I look forward to expanding my personal connections and experiences within it. Memphis has been a safe place for me to comfortably grow, and if anything, I will always adore this city because my favorite people live here, my beloved grandparents.
