Conversations with Brandon Blvd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Blvd

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story as an artist begins when I was around 8 years old. I recall being a kid that admittedly struggled to find my place in society early on. I wasn’t as interested in sports and many of the extra-curricular activities many of my friends were interested in. I often times found myself a bit alienated to say the least.

Then one day, my dad picked me up from my grandmothers house and he was playing Jay-Z’s album. He had the music turned all the way up it seemed. I saw how he gravitated to the beats, reclined and relaxed and truly listened to what it was that this emcee was saying, almost studying what he said and how he said it. This was the moment where I believe I found my “thing.”

I was a quiet and reserved kid but this was the thing that I felt could allow me the capacity to have people stop what they’re doing and listen to me. I fell in love with the possibility of spoken words painting pictures, telling stories, and getting points across. I began my journey through hip-hop pursuing those possibilities and a couple of decades later I still find passion, inspiration, and magic in it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I often admit that in your journey, you won’t make it far if you aren’t a bit crazy. I say that because throughout this journey I honestly don’t think I would’ve made it this far with outright sanity. The insane sacrifices you have to make just to survive in this industry should honestly be studied. I’ve spent countless hours, money, blood, sweat, tears, relationships, most of my childhood and all of my adulthood chasing this dream in hopes of telling my story to anyone willing to listen. So to answer that question, no. It hasn’t been a smooth road at all.

I was talking to my brother LJ recently about how insane yet normal it is to spend your last on studio sessions, productions, resources etc, when you haven’t eaten that day, or paid the light bill, or your clothes are old or worn down. But the possibility of completely changing your surroundings, feeding your people, and bettering your life in general makes those struggles worth it. Especially if you’re a bit crazy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In a nutshell I’m a hip-hop artist. But for me, that means so much more than what many may perceive. With that title alone, I wear many different hats.

I’m Brandon Blvd, a rapper from Memphis, TN. I’m an event organizer for a platform I curated alongside an amazing Memphis based artist Therèse that we call, “The Evergreen Sound Sessions.” I’m also a songwriter for multiple genres. I feel as though “hip-hop artist” encompasses that though.

What I believe sets me apart from others is my drive honestly. I have this drive that pushes me beyond my limits and capacity at times. Whether sick, depressed, over extended, etc, I will always have some semblance of a drive to show up for myself and my brand whenever, wherever, and however I can.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Outside of the world of music, I have a deep fascination with space and the cosmos. I often go down rabbit holes researching different planetary systems, galaxies, vast black holes, parallel universes, random theories etc. On a daily basis, I’ll find myself reading an article about the voyager satellites, or comparing tech specs between the James Webb telescope and the Hubble telescope. You know, all the cool stuff.
