Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Hill.
Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
With over seven years of experience in film and digital media, my journey began at Arkansas State University, where my background in portrait and fashion photography laid the foundation for a career in visual storytelling. I started as a marketing intern with Major League Soccer, focusing on photography, which soon evolved into social media and branded content production.
Today, I serve as a Multimedia Producer & Editor at Spotlight Productions—an award-winning production house—working under CEO and Founder Fabian Matthews. My work spans video production, editing, and campaign development, and I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with leading brands and organizations including Nike, Adidas, MLB Youth Foundation, National Soccer Hall of Fame, She Got Game League, FC Dallas, the City of Memphis, Memphis International Airport, the National Civil Rights Museum, Champions for Literacy, and Trust Marketing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a young black male navigating the creative industry, the path to entrepreneurship hasn’t always been clear—or easy. Opportunities often feel limited, resources scarce, and representation early on was minimal. But what I lacked in access, I found through earning a track scholarship creating my own path, and the invaluable support of mentors and peers who saw something in me before I fully saw it in myself. But behind each step forward was a network of people and programs that invested in my growth. I owe much of my success to those who offered guidance, challenged me to lead, and walked beside me as friends and collaborators.
Now, as a Multimedia Producer & Editor, I’ve been able to build on that foundation, working under visionary leaders like Fabian Matthews, Arturo Rubio Jr., Jessica Tobias and collaborating with brands that once felt out of reach. Every campaign I produce is more than just content—it’s a reflection of the journey, the barriers broken, and the belief that young Black creatives can lead, innovate, and own their narratives.
Black entrepreneurship is not just about business; it’s about building a legacy where our stories are told on our terms. I’m proud to be part of that movement.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a multimedia producer and photographer, my role bridges the creative and technical sides of storytelling. I’m involved in every phase of production—from concept development and pre-visualization to filming, editing, and delivering final assets across platforms. Whether it’s capturing stills or directing motion content, I focus on creating visuals that communicate a brand’s identity and connect with its audience in a meaningful way.
What I’m most proud of is my work on commercial campaigns, especially stepping into roles as a camera operator and director of photography. There’s something incredibly rewarding about shaping the visual language of a project—making decisions about lighting, composition, and movement that elevate the story. Being trusted with that responsibility, especially on high-impact campaigns, is a testament to the skills I’ve developed over the years and the teams I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with.
Every project is an opportunity not just to create—but to inspire, influence, and bring a vision to life through the lens.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has definitely played a role in my life and business, but I believe it’s been the kind of luck that shows up when preparation meets opportunity. I’m incredibly blessed to be surrounded by talented peers and generous mentors who have not only believed in my work but have also shared opportunities, advice, and space to grow.
I consider myself lucky to know so many incredible people who find it in their hearts to support my journey—whether by opening a door, making a connection, or simply showing up. That kind of support has been invaluable. More than just business relationships, these are people I continue to grow with creatively and professionally, and that mutual investment has shaped much of my success.
So while I work hard and stay ready, I never take for granted the good fortune of community. That, to me, is the best kind of luck.
