Today we’d like to introduce you to Dania Christian.
Hi Dania, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I would like to start by thanking you for this amazing opportunity! My love for art and fashion began when I started participating in pageants in middle school. I was so fascinated by the glitz and glamour of these gowns but never imagined being the creator of them one day.
I attended Mississippi State University originally for photography but that quickly changed when I was introduced to a student that was in the Apparel, Textiles, & Merchandising program. I visited her dorm room with a friend one day as she was working on her design projects and was sold by that one visit!
Here I am 13 years later designing birthday garments, wedding gowns, pageant gowns, prom gowns, and most recently a gown for Deiondra Sanders, daughter of NFL football legend, Deion “PrimeTime” Sanders! I’ve also added formal and non-formal alterations as a service.
My brand, Giselle Audrey Couture, LLC is named after my beautiful and smart five-year-old daughter, Giselle. She loves fashion just as much as I do and definitely keeps me motivated!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! There have been many ups and downs and mistakes that almost made me give up. Those same mistakes are the reason why I have continued to succeed! I push myself to perfect my craft and always push for more!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a freelance fashion designer and tailor! I specialize in custom formal wear and also alterations. I have been in the fashion industry for 13 years in which I started off just making custom Ready-To-Wear garments. I expanded my services to bridal & formal wear in 2018 after I created my very own wedding gown! Prom is what I’m most known for and one of my favorite seasons! I love the creativity that these young ladies and guys have! They are always making sure that they set themselves apart from everyone else!
My most proud moment is having the opportunity to work with Deiondra Sanders, the daughter of NFL legend Deion Sanders! It was truly a mind-blowing experience and it motivated me so much! I felt very confident going into the project even though this was my first VERY well-known person to work with. I went into the project with only three measurements to use and one fitting which was the day before the event! Minor alterations were needed for a perfect fit which was completed in less than an hour and it was perfect!
She absolutely loved everything about her gown and received so many compliments. That moment was only confirmation that anything is possible when you are ambitious and open to taking risks! This is what sets me apart from others.
Let’s talk about our city what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love best about the city is that there are so many events & festivities that take place giving creatives, artists, and business owners, in general, the opportunity to showcase! In my opinion, I do wish the city had more fashion inspiration. There was previously an art institute but it is no longer around and that was a great opportunity for people in the fashion industry.
