Conversations with Howard Hines III

Today we’d like to introduce you to Howard Hines III.

Hi Howard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
How I got started was after watching the news on September 11, 2001; on that day, I lost my fiancée that died in the World Trade Center. I phoned my fiancée’s friend and asked to speak to him and he asked me if I was sitting down. I said no and to put my baby on the phone. The roommate said he was not here but at The World Trade Center. Then the roommate said he have a message for me from my fiancée.

That message was “Tell Howard that I love him.” I begin to walk from Frayser to Southaven Mississippi where one of my sisters lives. I didn’t know what to do, I was not myself. After several years of living with my sister as I was in a depressed mode. She told me that I should write a book about my life. At the end of 2003, I got a job working in security. I then haven’t started writing anything because I was not for sure if I wanted to take that route.

In 2006, I started writing The Eyes of A Woman and Man which became my novel. I would write and write. But that wasn’t the first book that I wrote. Howard’s Book of Love Poems was born a few years later. My mother and I went to the Main Library here in Memphis are where I did my first book signing along with other authors. Every year and every day just reminded me of my fiancée. The wonderful things that we’d done together. I have always seen movies of people having picnics under a tree.

I never thought that I would ever do that. But with my fiancée, he was the romantic one. Of course, he taught me how to be romantic and do romantic things. After publishing 5 books total, I went on News Channel 3 Live at 9 with Marybeth Conley on September 11, 2018. With that being so late, I wasn’t ready to face the facts that the man I loved wasn’t coming back. Every day till this day, I’m missing him. Many have asked, “How can you move on?” My answer has always been, I don’t move on. I carry him in my heart every day and remember the moments we cherish.

In order to keep my mind occupied, I must continue to do more, to be more for myself and my family. In 2019, I decided to have a Podcast to see what could come of it. In 2020, a young woman asked me if I would like to make my novel into a movie. Ms. Gena Heelz with Life In Entertainment helped to make my novel come to life, by having me be the Casting Director and many other titles in this movie that is featured on XOD Network.

Thereafter, I continued with my Podcast. While filming this movie, my mother passed away a day after Valentine’s Day in 2021. My mother was my best friend and was supposed to have been the Queen Mother in the movie. Her scene would have been the last scene in the movie. So The Eyes of A Woman and Man is dedicated to her memory. Then I would go live on Facebook just to talk to the people and then I was given the name Howard Mac. People say that I sound like the Legendary Comedian Bernie Mac.

I didn’t believe them till I played back my video. Now I’m giving back to the community by interviewing talented men and women to make an appearance on my Podcast and Howard’s Talk Show (Howard Hines) on YouTube with that, this will help them to get noticed by many. As I continue to do this for them at no price, it makes me happy to see them happy. I can’t put a price on happiness. As my mother would always say, “Keep going and reach the highest mountain.

And always keep God in your heart”. My mother was an Evangelist. My siblings and I keep each other on the go with life as we continue to uplift each other. My family and friends are the best to have that will treat me with love. People say that I’m the next Tyler Perry and I just laugh. At this stage in life, I continue to make people smile as I continue on with my podcast and show.

Ms. Jackie Smith “The woman who’s been protesting for over 34 years near the Civil Rights Museum” would say, “Howard how are you just walking around here acting like you’re not a celebrity”? I would let her know that I’m not a celebrity. I’m just a regular person.

Then she would say, “You have your own movie, an author, and a podcast anchor. That makes you a celebrity.” Then I just say yes you’re right but I’m still a regular person. The only thing that comes to mind is “To God Be The Glory”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I didn’t see myself being where I am now today, 10 years ago. I thought that I was going to be a regular guy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m more so of an Entertainer and Anchor of podcasts. I go live on Facebook, Podcast, and upload my videos on YouTube.

I’m known on Facebook as Howard Mac due to that I sound like Bernie Mac when I speak and act silly talking about many different issues. The voice just happens and it keeps everyone laughing and wanting to hear more.

I’m most proud of my movie and my books. Being able to talk to people in my Live. But more importantly, I’m proud of being alive and hearing from my audience of 2.3K listeners who keep me interested in continuing to do my podcast and shows.

The thing that sets me apart from others is that I’m my own person, blessed, unique, and have love in my heart to bless others by giving them the opportunity to share their talents with an interview on my Talk Show and Podcast without having to wait on other well-known radio stations.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
People. Being able to have an audience that will listen and see me as I continue to be myself. As they’re enjoying my Podcast, movie, and books.
