Conversations with Jacquez Hicks-sweeney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquez Hicks-sweeney

Hi Jacquez, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I knew I was called to be a preacher at the age of 4. It was something that would not leave me. I tried to do everything besides preaching actually. I wanted to be an athlete or entertainer, but that ultimately was not the route for me. I knew I was destined to be somebody’s pastor. Now, I’ve been preaching going on 15 years and pastoring for almost 8 years. It was the best decision I’ve made. God has blessed me to be the Senior Pastor of Hunter Avenue Missionary Baptist Church

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anything but smooth. It has not been easy, but certainly worth it. Some challenges I have experienced are trying to get people on one agenda. I’ve lost people to death. Sometimes, I felt like I was being punished and if I wasn’t adequate enough to carry out the assignment. I’ve watched people that I help try to hurt me. I can write a book about all my struggles.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m not only a pastor. I also do ministry consultation as well as counseling. I’m known for my ability to motivate and visionary mind. I’m most proud of the journey. Looking from where I started to my current state, God has been better than good to me. The thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt and always thinking outside the box. I’m a risk taker and if I can imagine it, I feel that I can obtain it!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was an active child. I played church all my life. In high school, I took a Bible to school and would pray with my peers before we took tests. I have always been that individual that has all eyes on them and embraces being the center of attention. I always wanted to be a star or the main attraction.
