Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Lee-Gordon.
Hi Katrina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began with a simple but deeply personal calling—to show up for people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. That calling was further inspired by my participation alongside a colleague from another nonprofit organization, during the summer months in 2024. Through those experiences of service and witnessing the impact of collective kindness, I felt compelled to do more. In 2024, I launched the Hoodies and Blankets Campaign in partnership with ABC’s of Life, Inc. and Eat2Gether Food Truck providing warm clothing, hot meals, hoodies, blankets, and essential items to individuals experiencing homelessness. What began as a single act of outreach has now grown into an annual campaign each November.
I have always believed that compassion, consistency, and community can truly change lives. That belief became the foundation for what is now C.O.P.E., Inc. (Community Outreach, Partnership & Engagement).
C.O.P.E. was created out of a desire to move beyond conversation and into action. I saw gaps in support for individuals and families facing hardship—whether it was those experiencing homelessness, students needing mentorship, seniors longing for connection, or individuals striving for financial stability. Instead of waiting for change, I felt called to be a part of creating it.
What started as small acts of service—providing essential items, organizing outreach efforts, and building relationships—has grown into a multi-program organization focused on uplifting communities in meaningful and sustainable ways. Today, C.O.P.E. leads initiatives that support the unhoused, mentor youth, strengthen families, provide financial literacy education, and prepare individuals for career success.
The journey has not been without challenges, but every obstacle has strengthened my commitment to this work. Through partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and a shared vision, we continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
Where I am today is a reflection of faith, perseverance, and purpose. C.O.P.E. is more than an organization—it’s a movement rooted in hope, built on community, and driven by the belief that everyone deserves support, dignity, and opportunity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the journey for C.O.P.E. has not been without challenges. Like many growing nonprofits, we faced obstacles in building strong program structures, establishing effective board governance, and securing sustainable resources.
In the early stages, we focused on creating clear processes, defining leadership roles, and aligning our vision across the organization. While these challenges required time and intentional effort, they ultimately strengthened our foundation.
Each experience has helped shape C.O.P.E. into a more resilient and impactful organization, better equipped to serve our community with purpose and sustainability.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently serve as an Academic Operations Coordinator for the Clinical Science Department at the Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I support departmental operations, reconcile accounts, and assist with overall management. With over 15 years of experience in healthcare administration and office management, I bring a strong foundation in organization, efficiency, and strategic coordination. I am also a member of the National Association of Health Professionals, which reflects my commitment to professional growth and excellence in the healthcare field.
I specialize in operational support, program coordination, and turning vision into actionable results. I am known for my creativity, dedication, collaborative leadership, and my ability to step in, take initiative, and effectively execute plans that drive impact.
What I am most proud of is not only what I have accomplished professionally, but also the challenges I have overcome along the way. Those experiences have strengthened me, shaped my leadership style, and continue to fuel my passion for serving others. What sets me apart is my ability to combine structure with compassion—leading with purpose, building strong teams, and creating meaningful outcomes both in my professional role and through my work with C.O.P.E.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was the excitement of going to the Midsouth Fair at Liberty Land and family vacations.
