Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Lee
Hi Keri, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely! So, I was born and raised in North Memphis, and creativity has always been part of my world. Music was my first love. I started singing in church and performing in local arts programs, which led me to Overton High School, the school for creative and performing arts. I’ve always had a love for different forms of creative expression, which led me to study fashion merchandising and marketing at the University of Memphis. That path eventually took me to New York, where I pursued a career in the fashion industry and worked in design development as well as textiles.
A few years in, an unexpected opportunity came my way. I auditioned for John Legend and was chosen as a supporting vocalist. That moment shifted everything. Since then, I’ve traveled the world, performed alongside incredible artists, and grown in ways I never imagined. Now, I’m stepping into my own as a solo artist, blending all the creative influences that have shaped me. I actually dropped my first single, “EMBODY” and I’m so excited about it!
Whether through music, my radio show, or the herbal remedies I craft, my focus is always on creating something that moves people, makes them feel seen, and brings them back to themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the road has been smooth. I’m extremely blessed, and I can only respond in gratitude for my experience so far. Even in things that feel difficult in the moment, I can look back on them now and see what they were trying to teach me. It was usually something I needed to work on myself, or a lesson I needed to learn about the journey.
That being said, I’ve definitely had moments of imposter syndrome, insecurities, and times when I let other people’s projections weigh heavier than my own self-belief. Fatigue, mentally, emotionally, and energetically, can also creep in, especially when you’re constantly pouring into your work and the people around you. For me, the biggest key is maintaining a regulated nervous system. If I can do that, I can move through this journey with more ease, clarity, and trust in myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I believe my purpose here is to express myself, stay curious, create, love, share, and repeat. People may know me as a vocalist, sound healer, radio host, or the sweet tea lady. In music, I’m proud of the way I’ve shown up, both with my own solo work and as a background singer. Since the pandemic, I’ve fully embraced sound healing and wellness practices, especially somatic healing and offering sound baths with guided meditations.
I have a deep passion for herbs, flowers, and everything that grows naturally on this earth. I craft teas, oils, and body products that nurture our health without guilt or negative side effects. Along with my family, I’ve created Lee’s Urban Apothecary, where we combine our unique skills to make tinctures, loose-leaf teas, candles, sprays, and more. I’m proud of the family business we’ve built together.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can support or collaborate with me in a few different ways. One way to catch me is at my own event, the Sweet Tea Social, where I offer unlimited sweet tea, good music, DJ sets, games, and it’s a whole vibe. If you ever see one pop up, pull up and support.
This year, I’m also hosting a sing-along series called Sing It, Memphis at Tom Lee Park. When the dates are announced, please be on the lookout because I want you to experience it. You can support by getting your friends and family together to join me for a sing-along once a month.
You can also show love by downloading and streaming my most recent single, “EMBODY” on all streaming platforms.
Additionally, if you’re looking for a sound bath experience, I’m available for private sessions and I offer them publicly too. You can reach out to me directly for sound healing or session work at KeriLeeWellness@gmail.com. Let’s create something beautiful together.
