Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikole Smith.
Hi Nikole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Prior to owning a wine glass company, I was an office manager.
I’ve been an expert on multi tasking, project management, clerical, and personal assistance for years. I stepped out of my comfort zone and started customizing wine glasses as a hobby in 2018.
In December 2019, I resigned from my job to pursue entrepreneurship. Luxury Sips By Nikole became bigger than I imagined. I always knew I would own a business, I just didn’t know what type of business. I have a love for wine and crafting so it made sense to own a wine glass company that specializes in customization.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a business owner during a pandemic brought plenty of unexpected challenges.
I initially thought it would be “easy” because I was doing something I loved, from the comfort of my home, and customers were attracted because of how unique my items are, but I had very little knowledge of the business side of ownership, which became a challenge for me.
At that point, I had to invest in my business by hiring a business coach and from there established myself as a knowledgeable businesswoman. Not being prepared caused some costly mistakes, but the lesson was learned and I was able to grow from it and build a stronger brand for myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Luxury Sips By Nikole is a black-owned, female-operated business that specializes in customizing unique all-purpose stemware.
The uniqueness of my business comes from the woman body-shaped stemware that I customize with great attention to detail. It is truly one of a kind because I never make the same glass twice. I like to call them “conversation starters”. I am most proud of being able to provide a unique item for my customers.
These are normally purchased for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, house warnings, etc. so to make someone feel special on their big day is what I’m most proud of.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m currently transitioning my business from customization to being a wholesale supplier of body-shaped stemware. For the past couple of months, I have been working on some new glass designs that will be launching Fall of 2022.
My bigger plans are to create a luxury collection of dinnerware/tableware.
