Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Hayes. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Big Pap Tha Mickilla aka Patrick O’Neal Hayes came up in the South Memphis area. Raised by his grandmother is where he started his love for music.
In 1999, he was signed to a major record label but with trouble and run-ins with law enforcement, he lost a major opportunity. After his release from prison, he bagged away from music for a couple of years but returned to music in 2012 with his first mixtape named swagg music which deemed him a raw talent.
Today, Big Pap is an artist and CEO of Blu Money Music and is still going strong on the indy market and is legendary in his city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. There is so much talent in the city that’s being overlooked cause of all the animosity in the Memphis music scene.
It’s a bad look for the city as a whole, especially in the hip-hop scene it’s a really dangerous job being a Rapper in this city.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important thing for me is consistency. The fact that I lasted so long in this business and still relevant is because I have a real passion for the business of music.
