Conversations with Ryan Barber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Barber.

Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Ryan J. Barber and I’ve been streaming since 2014. I love pro-wrestling and playing different types of sports/ fighting games for entertainment. In 2013 I created a concept labeled as “interactive” via WWE 2K15 on Twitch that many wrestling streamers use today.

I couldn’t be more proud of what everyone has currently done with that specific style of play with chatters & viewers alike. 1 year before streaming on Twitch I was involved in a car accident that nearly took my life (while riding passenger).

Once the car smashed into the light pole I took direct impact ripping my seat from the car & crushing my body by cracking my skull in multiple places (resulting in a brain leak on the left side of the skull), broken ribs, punctured lung, broke both of my femurs (resulting in metal rods being inserted in the bones of my legs), destroyed my front & back teeth, permanently dislocated my shoulder, broke my hip, plus more severe injuries taking place all at once that had doctors believe my life would end.

The doctors went as far as to tell my family that I wasn’t going to make it and that they tried everything they could but here I am typing the story today. There is no clear explanation as to why or how I survived but I am extremely grateful for my second chance at life and for having the opportunity to stream on Twitch & create content that I enjoy.

After I learned how to walk again I began chasing my dreams and have met some pretty awesome people along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Streaming on Twitch came with multiple struggles along the way.

Learning a new platform, engaging with people while trying to create an audience, and balancing your life outside of Twitch can all be extremely challenging.

However, to be able to do what I love is a blessing that I am truly grateful for.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Twitch streamer. I’d say, my personality more than anything sets me apart from other streamers. I just try to be good to the people that come across my way.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Memphis are its many cultures and communities. What I like least is the violence.
