Conversations with Sondra King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sondra King.

Hi Sondra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Sondra King & I’m the proud owner of K&B’s Smooth Nutrition. K&B’s Smooth Nutrition creates organic ,nutrient packed superfood smoothies that energize the body for optimal function and health. I’ve always had a passion for nutrition, health/fitness, and wellness. I started my health journey years ago blogging. I always shared healthy recipes, wellness tips, and smoothie recipes. My blog began to get a lot of traffic and people asking questions on how to maintain a healthier lifestyle. My parents have been gardeners their entire lives. I’ve always had passion/knowledge regarding food and I began to study different foods and how they affected your body. Shortly after that, I started experiencing some personal health challenges. I began feeling lethargic at times, fatigued, my blood pressure started escalating, I had a history of migraines but they began to become more intense and frequent. I had digestion issues to the point of being placed on medication. My physician recommended placing me on medications to treat everything. I didn’t like that idea, and I wanted to try another alternative. I asked him to allow me time to try a different method. I had a fast paced/high demanding job at the time, so being placed on medication and not being fully alert was not in my cards. I started to exercise more, I changed my diet, and began drinking smoothies. I went vegetarian for about 6 months to see if food impacted my body in the way I suspected. It did. I started drinking green smoothies daily. Everyday! I began putting ingredients in them that contained what I wouldn’t otherwise receive on a daily basis. More greens, nutrients, etc. My life changed. All of my health challenges miraculously disappeared. Fast forward to a few years later my father took ill, and suddenly passed. I decided to make this smoothie business a business. I designed and launched my now website and business K&B’s Smooth Nutrition. I did a pop up at Stretchlab Lakeland and they asked me to consider coming back sharing. From that one opportunity I’ve done pop ups all over the city sharing my story and stressing the importance of wellness, health, fitness, consistency, and how it can save/change your life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. Timing is very important. knowing your purpose and being able to stick to your vision without wavering. I struggled with second guessing myself and my products at times. When you’re new to the scene creditiablity means alot, as well as offering what you feel is necessary to a community of people who may or may not be familiar with you. I also struggled with proscrastination. Fear of being rejected when you put your heart and soul into your products. You want people to love it as much as you do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m also am author. I’ve published 2 devotionals that are in a few local bookstores/Amazon. I was also a co-author in an anthology called “The Breaking Point” with Dr. Paulette Harper that made a billbaord feature in Atlanta and #1 best seller & made headlines in the Bartlett Express Newspaper. Alongside being an author, I’m the founder of K&B’s Smooth Nutrition. I also work at Club Pilates. I love absolutely love Pilates. I’m most proud of my smoothie business and how I’ve impacted the city and community. I’ve made partnerships & connections that I wouldn’t have ever dreamed of. I think what sets me apart are my ingredients that I place in my smoothies. Most of my ingredients and obtained from my mothers garden or local farmers. I also include ingredients that are designed to heal you from chronic illness without compromise.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor and networking are vital. I’m introverted so that was a HUGE adjustment for me. I had to learn to trust my myself & my instincts and be confident in what K&B’s had to offer. I also looked for like minded people. People who shared the same beliefs/vision in health and wellness. I believe hard work, consistency, and integrity has worked well for me.
