Conversations with Stacie Ragland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacie Ragland.

Hi Stacie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve been an artist all my life. I can remember loving nail art as a teenager. I’d beg my mom to buy me the nail polishes with the skinny brush so I could practice nail designs. As I got older it never really left me. I tried fiberglass nails, drugstore press-ons, etc.

I loved to get my nails done but would almost get excited when I needed to save and had to do my own. Circa 2017 I lost my job. By then I’d been playing around with nail art but nothing major. A friend asked me to make her a set of nails and from there it was on! I loved doing different designs and styles.

Before I even was considering a business (and was only doing nails for her and me), she’d challenge me with fun art ideas. I was ALWAYS up to the challenge! People started to ask where she got her nails done and I knew I needed to make this my thing! From there, Glow Getter Nail Company was born.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As any small business owner can tell you, things don’t always go as planned. At the beginning of 2020 I had a moderate amount of regular customers, but nothing major. I mistakenly followed @stovetopkisses from my business Instagram.

I’d been a fan on YouTube for a few months and loved her content. Pretty quickly (the same day) she sent me a DM saying she loved my nails and would like to order soon. I fangirled out and asked if I could send her a couple of sets to try out for free. About a month later I’d forgotten about it and my Instagram started going a little nuts. She was posting about my nails on her stories.

I think I gained over 1000 followers that day (especially then, that was wild to me!). I got so many orders from just those few stories that I had to change my entire order format. This was in maybe January. Of course, in March COVID hit. All of a sudden the ladies who’d been interested before didn’t have access to their nail shops. The business was booming!

2020 was phenomenal! However, I learned pretty quickly how fickle social media (especially Instagram) was. The algorithm kept changing. All of a sudden my preorder days weren’t selling out like usual. Every time I thought I got the hang of staying in front of my audience, IG would change the rules again.

Things have leveled out in 2022 and I’m super excited about some new things I’m working on for the business. The last two years have been a roller-coaster but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Lots of people don’t make it past the first “valley” in their business life. I’ve learned to climb back out and keep climbing.

There will be more obstacles to come. I’m learning and will keep on pushing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Glow Getter Nail Company specializes in luxury press-on nails and nails care products. Most people who’ve had experience with press-ons say “they don’t last” or “they look fake”. Through lots of trial and error, I’ve come up with the best way to get up to two weeks of wear with press-ons. It’s all in the application!

Our press-ons are created with gel polish. They’re much more flexible than those made with acrylic which helps with application. Don’t think they’re flimsy, though! Our sets are sturdy and can be worn multiple times with proper application and care.

My business is known for catering to the everyday nail wearer. Many press-on companies do gorgeous long nails but don’t offer anything for the everyday person. We do it all! Almost every design we offer can be done in one of our 10+ nail styles from Extra Short Square to XXXXL Coffin. The bulk of my regular customers prefer a short or medium-length nail and I’m happy to provide it!

One of the proudest moments in my business was when Danni Rose (@stovetopkisses) wore my nails on OWN Food Fantasies: Deep Fried Hall of Fame! I couldn’t believe MY work was on NATIONAL TV! I felt so proud at that moment and the nails looked amazing! The design she was wearing is a gorgeous tortoiseshell set called Not Ocelot. It’s still one of my best sellers.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family means everything to me. I grew up in a very close-knit loving household. I lost my father to lung cancer at 10 years old. This, of course, made me hold the rest of my friends and family tighter.

Being able to run my business as my full-time job would allow me to be closer to my family on a daily basis. Yes, I know that being a full-time entrepreneur can be a 24hr a day job. It would be worth it to work with my family by my side.
