Today we’d like to introduce you to Atia Andonova.
Atia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Atia, originally from Burgas, Bulgaria, with Lebanese roots, and now based in the U.S. I’ve been a classically trained musician since I was 4, starting with piano. My dedication led me to win a world piano championship in Russia, which was a significant milestone in my musical journey.
Before I started DJing, I began producing music on my mom’s old MacBook, which allowed me to explore my creativity. Around the age of 16, I took the leap into DJing, performing at venues like EXE Beach Bar, Carrusel Club in Sofia, and Fabric Club in Burgas. Later on, I signed with Switzerland-based Enormous Tunes Records, and my debut EP, Diaries, has received attention from influential figures in the electronic music scene, including Nora en Pure, who ranked number 65 in this year’s DJ Mag Top 100. It’s incredible to see my music gaining that kind of recognition.
Alongside my music career, I’m deeply passionate about healthcare reform and malpractice law. I’m currently studying Political Science with minors in Health Equity and Music at Rhodes College. My education is shaping my understanding of healthcare systems, and I’m committed to advocating for change, especially for underserved communities. I’ve seen firsthand the disparities in healthcare access and quality, and I want to work towards solutions that improve these systems.
Balancing both my music and healthcare aspirations can be challenging, but I believe that both paths allow me to make a positive impact in different ways
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in music has come with significant challenges. The industry is highly competitive, and I often face tough competition from other artists. This pressure can be disheartening at times, especially when I encounter negativity from people who doubt my abilities or try to undermine my success.
Rather than letting this bring me down, I’ve chosen to use these experiences as motivation. Each setback has made me stronger and more resilient, pushing me to refine my skills and stay true to my artistic vision.
Balancing my music career with my studies can also be overwhelming. Juggling both paths requires a lot of effort and dedication, and there are times when I feel stretched thin. However, I’ve learned that overcoming these challenges only makes me more determined to succeed.
These experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance and self-belief. I’m committed to using my voice in both music and healthcare reform to make a positive impact, no matter the obstacles I face along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an electronic music DJ/producer in the tech/melodic house scene. Even though I’m young, I’ve already hit some big milestones, like having my music loved by Nora En Pure, who’s one of the top 100 DJs in the world. It’s surreal to see my work resonate with someone I admire, and it motivates me to keep pushing forward.
What sets me apart isn’t just my age but my drive to make things happen. I set goals and go all in to achieve them, always looking for ways to grow and challenge myself. Another thing that sets me apart is that my music is personal—it’s rooted in my own experiences and emotions, and I use each track to tell a story that feels real. I want my listeners to connect with what I’m sharing, and to feel like they’re a part of the journey, whether it’s moments of joy, reflection, or anything in between.
You can find my work on all streaming platforms. I’m excited to keep exploring new sounds, trying different things, collaborating with other artists, and seeing where it all takes me. As I grow, I’m committed to spreading my love for electronic music to others!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The COVID-19 crisis had a significant impact on my career, providing me with a unique opportunity to dive deeper into music production. With more time at home, I was able to refine my skills, experiment with new sounds, and expand my creative horizons. This period of reflection and growth allowed me to focus on my passion for music without the usual distractions. Additionally, it gave me the chance to research and apply to colleges, setting the stage for my academic and professional future.
